we were obviously not watching the same game last night. ersberg gets run, drewiskie is so kind to hold onto kostopolus's helmet while he gets up. doughty gets checked a few seconds after he sends a pass through and gets rocked into the boards in his own end of the ice. next was walker taking liberties with doughty in the corner by getting his forearm up in his face, nothing happens. there were numerous other times throughout the night where the kings were tossed around. now i understand these aren't exactly labeled as "runs" per say but they are liberties that are taken which i am fine with as long as there is a response back, there was nothing, except scoreboard. i guess i just want this team to grow a pair but that could be machismo problem i suppose.
So the fact that the Kings shrugged off the hitting and, I dunno, won the game doesn't lend any credence to the fact that Carolina's physical play meant exactly squat towards the outcome of the game?
I know some of us love the violent aspect of the game, but rolling thru the opposition's physicality and staying true to the game plan says boat loads more about the Kings toughness than a couple of silly Ivanans tussles.
eh, I know what I weigh in at so its not surprising nor insulting if someone else notices. I'm a big dude, but I still get around the ice so I deal with it. So no hating goin on... course if it wasn't me they were referring to, then never mind.

I really like the way Parse plays but I think I am ready to give Purcell a try on a scoring line again. Also, Zus looked tired last night. Maybe give Richardson some additional ice time unless Parse or Purcell can fill in at center.
The "dumpy kings fan" that they kept showing wasn't wearing a white chevy, he was wearing a dark jersey with the shield logo on it (i'm pretty sure) he also had a goatee and was standing in the aisle for a good minute in a half while the camera was transfixed on him. There was no two year old in sight.
seriously though, i have to agree with alpa from several pages back, that the kings did get outplayed for much of this game and that they were lucky to get a win. they were outmuscled and beaten along the boards, but got a few bounces that gave them a win.
It is nice to see the Kings get some lucky bounces, and grab the win. Good things happen when good things are happening for a team. That confidence kind of grows.
It is so great to see Kopitar come into the season in such great shape and start on a great point streak even getting a few points on an "off night".
A .03 difference? You are right stats don't tell the whole story. That equates to less than 3 points over the course of a full season. Williams is still at a PPG pace 1 1/2 months into the season. My only issue is if Williams can stay healthy otherwise I'd have already bumped my "Will Justin Williams outscore Patrick O'SUllivan" poll/thread from last spring.

Agreed (bold text), and I do think JW has helped Kopitar to a certain extent. But with the way AK is playing right now, you could've put nearly any top six RW on his line and he'd still be putting up big numbers.

However I absolutely do not agree that Kopitar is nearly as productive with any ole RW. For the sake of argument, let's say Simmonds is Kopi's RW all season thus far instead of Williams. I'd think Kopi would be around 20-23 points, not 30.

Well if Ivannans was playing on Kopitar's wing all season he probably wouldn't have 30 points right now. That's a given, and the same could be said for nearly any 1st line center in the league.
But I didn't say "any ole RW." I said any top 6 RW. If Dustin Brown had been on the 1st line all season, Kopitar would still be putting up similar numbers. Williams on the other would not. JW, the way he is playing right now, is a 2nd liner on a good team.

Alright fine, any top 6 RW. I still disagree. Brown would give that line a totally different dynamic. Brown can dig pucks out the way Williams does. Brown can't slow down the game the way Williams does. Brown only has one move to shake defenders, and he can only use it (and fail) on the rush, he can't draw an extra defender on the boards the way Williams can and finally Brown just doesn't see the ice as well as Williams.
If you want to say that Williams is a 2nd line RW on a team with a RW like Gaborik or Iginla, fine. Williams is not an elite superstar player himself, but he is more offensively gifted than any other RW on the team, and he brings a dynamic no one else can. I would go so far as to say that he is one of the top 30 RWs in the league in terms of offensive talent.
I think Brown on that first line all season does not dominate as much as with Williams. Maybe Kopi has 10g and 13a or something. Again, not tops in scoring because so much is about chemistry that would be disrupted without Williams. That first line is so much about keeping up offensive pressure and cycling, and Williams and Smyth are doing most of the work in that regard. Kopi is finishing and rushing and driving to the net which is getting him his points, but Williams is the first one on the puck the majority of the time and also the first one on the dmen when the opposition regains control.
I can't help myself getting baited into this argument over and over. I just don't understand how you guys can think that all the little things Williams' does for that line are so easily replaceable. Yes Kopi is the superstar and he will be with anyone, but he is not on the best line in hockey without Williams on his RW.

i think the biggest difference/element that williams has added to kopitars(and the first lines) success this season has been on the breakout and gaining posession in the neutral zone. williams AND smyth for that matter put the puck ahead of kopitar to an area on the rush/breakout and exactly where it needs to be for kopitar to carry that momentum/speed and get the defense to back off the blue line allowing easy entry and outnumbered attacks. williams doesn't have a hard pass but it seems to land flat and in the right spots allowing kopitar to use his size and speed in the neutral zone and complements kopi and smyth perfectly on the cycle down low. that's something that brown and o'sullivan weren't able to do really well if at all at times. williams defensive side of the game where he is able to get possession of the puck with his stick trumps browns effort ten fold since brown has decided that his big hits aren't as important this year and uses them less often this year so far.
i probably made this too much about brown vs. williams but someone brought it up so i ran with it.

yeah, we'll see how long the goalies love getting rolled over without any response. that won't rattle them at all in the playoffs. i'm just saying, there's something to be said about playing as a team of brothers and standing up for yourself and not being thrown around the rink like a bunch of freshman and i could give a crap if ivanans is in the lineup or not.

Agreed, he is a lot more patient with the puck than O'Sullivan and makes some great little plays.

I actually grew it out a full beard around the beginning of the playoffs (just for practice). Then I cut it in the summer.....but before I did I took a picture of just a porn stache. I have been clean shaven since then....but the picture is still making the rounds.
