Of course not but our defence hasn't exactly been helping him out there either.

He's let in some bad goals lately but he's made some great saves as well. If he does let a soft goal or two in early in a game our team shouldn't be falling apart either.

At this point I'm interested in watching his next few starts and whether he bounces back or continues to slide into mediocrity.

Its also his first stretch of games in nearly a year. If he's still letting a softie every game around christmas i'll be more concerned.

Leclaire needs to be better, the defence needs to be better & the forwards need to be a lot better & score some goals. The coach needs to be better & the GM needs to pull some trades to make this team better if they have any shot of challenging this yr. If not, start looking at rebuilding which means you still have to make trades.

Let's start by making the team better:

To LA: Cheechoo, Ruutu & SJ 2nd rd pick (approx. $4 mil)
To Ottawa: Frolov UFA & O'Donnel UFA (approx. $4 mil)
- LA will not want to send Ottawa back any of their prized prospects but they may unload these two UFAs. O'Donnel will give us some veteran leadership for the remainder of the yr (replaced next season with Cowen) & some more much needed grit on defence to clear the front of the net. Frolov hopefully will score goals & maybe get Kovalev off his ass. I don't see a lot of teams wanting Frolov.
- LA has the cap space to buy out Cheechoo if they want or retrade him but there are also a lot of people in southern California who like Cheechoo. It's the price they pay for ridding themselves of a problem player & an older vet. Picard could improve in LA without the constant birage of reporters bugging him in Ottawa. Another 2nd round pick doesn't hurt either to go with their other two 2nd rd picks.

To Florida: Kelly, Lee & 2010 1st rd pick (approx. $3 mil)
To Ottawa: Horton RW (approx $4 mil)
- Florida gets a 1st rd pick to add to their own 1st rounder to maybe use to get into the Taylor Hall sweepstakes. Lee may be given the opportunity to improve at his own pace & could be a very decent defenceman for Florida. Kelly will help with leadership, PK & two way play. Ottawa gets a powerforward who can score to play with Spezza, they get bigger & tougher.

To Chicago: Volchenkov & Shannon (approx. $3 mil)
To Ottawa: Barker (approx. $3 mil) & Skille (Skille is sent to Bingo)
- Chicago needs a shot blocking defenceman for their playoff run & Shannon is depth for injuries. If it doesn't work out they don't resign either player & have cap space to resign all of their RFAs. Ottawa gets a decent offensive defenceman & a future player if Skille can ever make the NHL.

Michalek - Spezza - Horton - could they be as good as Anahiem's 1st line
Frolov - Fisher - Alfredson - should be able to score more with Frolov
Foligno - Regin - Kovalev - more scoring potential on the 3rd line
Donovan - Winchester - Neil - I'd bring up Yabo or Bass or Smith from time to time.

Kuba - Campolli - should be better together
Barker - Carkner - Carkner hangs back & allows Barker to play more offensively
Phillips - O'Donnel - shut down tandem - the D gets bigger & better

Fantasy Trade:
To Montreal: Kovalev & Leclaire (approx. $8.8 mil)
To Ottawa: Plekanec, Halak & Hamrlik (approx. $8.8 mil)
- I doubt Gainey wants Kovalev back but he does want to move Plekanec & Halak. Leclaire is a french goalie playing in his hometown who could mentor Price.
- Halak it could be argued is a better goalie than Leclaire & Hamirlik will be better for Ottawa than Kovalev has been. Plekanec is also a better replacement for Regin who can be sent back to Bingo for more seasoning.

The only trade I like is the LA trade, but I doubt they want Cheechoo.

Aragorn trades cheechoo for Frolov every day, it's just borderline mentally insane.

The only way a team takes Cheechoo is a salary dump for a salary dump which doesn't help Ottawa at all.

He's here to stay, unless he lights it up nobody will want him. And if thats the case why trade him?

The only way he doesn't play out his contract in Ottawa is if he plays it out riding the bus in Bingo.

Yeah, not to mention Frolov is just awesome and any team would love to have him.

I doubt Gainey gets rid of Plekanec since he is their leading scorer

Well why are teams not lining up to trade for Frolov if he is so damn good? He isn't even playing on LA's top line. Could it be that he has a poor work ethic? Or dissappears in games or for stretches of games? Why was he sat out for a few games? Why did his coach say that every coach & GM have had issues with this guy in LA? His name has been rumoured about for quite some time & yet he still isn't traded. He is a UFA at the end of the season & all indications are that he won't be resigned, why would LA want to lose him for nothing? BTW LA is winning without his production.

On the other hand Cheechoo has some fans in southern California, he is a character guy who works hard. LA could wait until the deadline to get rid of Frolov but most teams might be weary that Frolov could disappear when the going gets tough in the playoffs & be a wasted acquistion, he does have baggage you know. LA has the opportunity to move two UFA guys who likely will not get resigned (Frolov & O'Donnel). Do you not think that LA could use a guy like Ruutu? When we got him half this board was estactic because of the PPs he was going to create for us. Also don't you think LA could use another 2nd round pick? That's two decent players & a pick for two guys you are going to lose. They are both risks & could only be temporary acquisitions, if Frolov decides to test free agency which most think he will. This reduces there value in a trade or don't you see that.

All you can see is Cheechoo & the fact he isn't scoring for Ottawa & immediately jump to the conclusion that nobody would want him. Well, why did Ottawa take him? Because it came with something else that they did want, Michalek. LA has the cap space to buy him out should they want but most think that some other team will put up substantially more than what I have offered in this trade. That's quite possible, maybe, but I haven't seen it yet. I think you will be surprised what happens with Frolov.
