Remember that Philly game where Bulis wasn't even supposed to play and was inserted in the lineup at the last minute? We all remember what followed right? I had this tiny glimmer of hope that Latendresse would have the "Bulis effect" tonight. Was I ever wrong.
Yeah, exactly, the fact we're doing worse than ever at 20 games makes it hard to be optimistic.
Not only is the team playing worse, but a lot of the players that were playing well, from the first line on down to perennial whipping dogs like Lats, seems to be going the wrong way. Plekanec seems to be the only one who is immune.
This is not a good trend. It really makes you worry -- is it a coaching issue? A morale issue?
It's not talent -- we know all these guys are capable of being better.
the healthy team thing, while usually is an issue, is not tonight. This team should have scored that 1 goal. Everyone talks about a goalie keeping you in the game and energizing you to play harder. This team had enough players that could have scored. Bad decisions, no intensity, horrible passes, useless plays against...nashville...
not acceptable. I'm finally on the "bring up sergei" bandwagon.
White and Pyatt have been playing ok, but they are not the answer to our top 6. Even our best players did nothing. Plek never had another guy skating next to him. Cammy never got a chance to score. Gomez was pretty bad. I guess you can pin it on a lack of a breakout defence, but really...just a horrible game that we were only watching to see if the team could tie it for Carey.
Price was incredible and I'm happy he tied the save record, he deserved it. There were a few minor flaws in his game (mostly playing the puck) but with a defense like that he didn't have much choice. He was .. there's not even really a word to describe how good he played tonight. Key save after key save.
Jacques Martin is an idiot. Regardless if he kept Price in for the save record or just to "teach a lesson," - it was some really bad coaching. Even though we didn't get anything going in the first 58 1/2 minutes, there was no reason that when we had the puck deep within the Predators zone with just over 1:30 left that Price was still in net.
Of course, the chance of coming back was slim, but it always is when you pull your goalie. Give me Plekanec, Cammalleri, Gomez, Hamrlik, Bergeron and Metropolit in a 6 on 5 and I'm confident they will at least get one quality shot off.
Again, I'm happy for Price - he was beyond great. But for the first time this year, I'm jumping on the Jacques Martin bash wagon.
No, the problem is no Markov + Bergeron. Up front, we're better than last year.
Markov won't change that much ...we still suck, we got no 2nd line ..we got no ability to play defensively, no matter what LINE is on the ice. Our young players are regressing year after year, game after game ..we got no depth, we are soft like i've never seen a bunch of soft players like this. We lack creativeity, we lack spirit, we have no identity , we don't have a franchise forward. We got no players in Hamilton to help us, we got no young forward that might interest us in Hamilton. We can't trade cause our players suck or they have horrible cap hit or it would be stupid to trade them (Markov, CAmmalleri, Plekanec ). We can't accept other players because we have no cap space.
