Ottawa - Dallas

To Ottawa: Fabian Brunnstrom

To Dallas: Brian Lee

Brian Murray has stated that he'd like to add another forward, so he gets a talented and young winger who could hopefully establish himself on the left side on the 2nd line, allowing Alex Kovalev to move back to his natural RW position.

Dallas gets a 22 year old NHL defenseman with plenty of potential left who's been caught in a numbers game early this year in Ottawa (he's on a two way, Picard is on a one way), and might be getting pushed out of the longterm picture with Karlsson and Cowen coming up in the next year or so.

hmm interesting idea for sure, not quite sure how I feel about this one. Brunnstrom and Lee have both been tough to get a read on at the NHL level.

I think it works, both are relatively young players with a high degree of potential, yet both haven't developed as fast as their respective teams would have liked. Also, winger to Ottawa and defenseman to Dallas, which is an added benefit.

Hmmm...

Actually, we've got this sort of logjam on D anyway. Sorry.

what if we added a forward from ottawa and a d-man from dallas coming back? Something like Lee + Shannon/Donovan/Kelly/Winchester for Brunnstrom + ?

The problem with Lee is he's in the same position as the rest of Dallas's defenders. He does not improve Dallas' D right now so why do the trade? Dallas already has a ton of young defenders with potential. Lee is overkill.

The Stars need a guy who is already playing like a top pair defender.

Agreed. We already have a few Lees, we need a Chara.

Ottawa already has 14 forwards and enough scorers, many of whom are having trouble finding a role on the team already.

I'd rather use a Lee or a Picard to try to upgrade the defense at the trade deadline.

Problem is the lack of definitive upgrades floating around that are even possible to obtain.

<redacted>

But we really do just need a top pairing D with a good breakout pass and PP QB abilities. And preferably an affordable one.

Chris Kelly has won a healthy 38% of his faceoffs this year, 47% last year, and 53% in 07/08 (took less than 4% of his teams faceoffs that year).

That's the faceoff specialist you want?

EDIT: Dallas 4 primary centers are 45% or better this year. Only Richards is over 50%

A decent proposal involving Dallas?

The idea is interesting, but as my fellow stars fan says, we need a proven dman

Very good and fair trade. I think Lee is worth a little more, but not by much.

Not bad value. But as has been mentioned, Lee is kind of redundant for the Stars. I might listen for Picard. But in all probability Brunnstrom could be packaged to bring back a better defender than either of those two, maybe.

Getting somebody who wants Niskanen and Brunnstrom would be a good starting place.

I'm amused by the polarity of the above two posts. Unless one was missing sarcasm smiley.

Edit: Am I missing something, I hardly ever watch Sens games. Picard seems to have a decent track record, whereas Lee won't ever be looked upon to be a big time numbers guy. Obviously I may have misunderstood the last two posts.

everyone hates on Picard cuz he was traded for their lover Meszaros... or something like that

He's not stellar, ( Lee has more potential ) the guy has been good since Clouston started coaching, but tends to make some mistakes...

Gotcha. Thanks. Neither one of them seems worth Fabian to me.

I'd love to see Steve Ott play for the Senators someday. Just imagine the boxscore:

Goal - F OTT (OTT)

Seriously though, what would it take to get Matt Niskanen? Something like Lee+ or Picard+?
