Ana - Buf

To Buffalo: Scott Niedermayer

To Anaheim: Tony Lydman, Andrej Sekera, 1st round pick.

Idea was tossed around on the Sabres boards and pretty much agreed it would never happen, but what would it take to get him to Buffalo, assuming Myers is untouchable.

That's not nearly enough. Lydman is an upcoming UFA -- he holds absolutely no value for the Ducks. Sekera isn't anything special.

I don't really think the Sabres match up well with the Ducks in terms of being trading partners -- that is, if Myers is considered untouchable.

Agreed. And yeah, Myers would be untouchable.

I think Niedermayer would be awesome trade bait at the deadline - could certainly fetch some nice prospects / picks.

Other teams would easily ante up a more enticing offer than that.

If Lydman wasn't a pending UFA, that's the right kind of package

you guys have a different #3-4 guy that could take the spot of Lydman in this trade?

pretty sure the first deal not only lacks value going back to the ducks but puts the sabres over the salary cap

Ryan Whitney might be of interest though or Nick Boynton

I still wouldn't even consider it if Lydman was signed beyond this year. This deal lacks a centerpiece. Lydman, Sekera, and a 1st just isn't going to cut it. I have to believe Murray would ask for Myers in return for Niedermayer, but I doubt Buffalo would move him.

I know he isn't Neid's calibre, but I would love to see Buf try to land Hamhuis. I think he would fit into the Sabre's team really well. Don't know what it would take, a prospect and pick more then likely

Mair isn't an upgrade over any of our current bottom-6 forwards and Sekera isn't a top-4 defenseman. So, no -- Anaheim would be backtracking with a move like this.

Sekera is a top 4 defenseman. He's had a rough start to this season, but to discount all that he's done the past few years is ridiculous.

What are you basing your assumption off of? Sekera hasn't performed like a top-4 guy since he has entered the league. He saw a decent amount of minutes last year for a Buffalo team that was pretty weak on defense.

If he's a top-4 defenseman on any team in this league, then said defense is well below average.

Not true at all. In 07-08 he definitely played like one after getting called up (hell, he was being matched up against top lines and was more than holding his own) and the same for the beginning of last year. Sometime around February though his play started to inexplicably drop down.

I remember him playing well down the stretch as the Sabres pushed for the playoffs, but he certainly hasn't been able to duplicate whatever success he enjoyed in '07/'08. Either way, he's definitely not a top-4 guy.
