The Leafs had the highest scoring defense in the league last year...
Also a big pass on the Hedin+3rd for Fedor Fedorov and Tomas Mojzis proposal. I don't see why we should even trade a 3rd for a likely bust with attitude issues and a guy the Leafs didn't need anymore about two years ago...
I wasn't interested in trading Sopel, I just was making a point.
Pilar was a 2nd round draft pick and is one of the best defencemen in the Czech League right now.
It wouldn't surprise me if Pilar is traded but he will fetch more than that.
He's also 27 years old and no better than a #5 at the NHL level... atleast he's unproven. It's not as if he's proven he can't play, because he can. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to an average team and became a top pairing guy.
Unless it would be a huge blockbuster Brian Allen likely won't be moved by the Canucks but if it's Sopel you want to talk about....
To Vancouver: Carlo Colaiacovo
To Toronto: Sopel
To Vancouver: Tucker and a 3rd pick in '05
To Toronto: Sopel and a 4th pick in '05
Oh I know we're not going to get Allen from you guys. I was just chipping in on that discussion earlier about Sopel and stuff.
I wouldn't do either deal.
1) in the first deal we get older, one problem with the Leafs as we are constintly reminded on these boards is our lack of youth, I mean 29th overall and Colaiacovo is our top prospect.
2) Again I wouldn't do this, Tucker is more valueable to us then Sopel would be on our blueline, and even if we ended drafting 30th and Vancouver 1st our 3rd would still be better then your 4th. so I humbly decline.
once again Sopel isn't what the leafs need, he's a good top 4 defenseman with offense.
Toronto needs a Top 4 with Defense, We've needed one of these players for years, and I'm not saying Sopel can't play defense hardly I mean we need someone like Allen more then Sopel someone who's stregnth is a selling point not a footnote
The Leafs have Kaberle and Leetch already, add in Pilar, Colaiacovo and McCabe's offense and Sopel doesn't fill a hole for Toronto.
