Goalie Jose Theodore has returned to Washington for personal reasons, and the Caps have recalled Michal Neuvirth and Jay Beagle ahead of tonight’s game against the Rangers.

Neuvirth is here to back up Semyon Varlamov, and Beagle is here just in case David Steckel can’t go. Steckel took a teammate’s slap shot off the foot in practice yesterday and was last seen limping off the ice at Prudential Center.

As far as Theodore’s situation, I don’t have any details at the moment.

Oh noez, not Varlamov.

From Andrew Gross yesterday.

(UPDATE): Know there’s been some internet chatter on this but I’ve been told Chris Drury has not, repeat, has not been placed on injured reserve.

Tonight's the night Gabby takes the lead in the NHL goal scoring race. And he won't give it up for the rest of the season.

Ovechkin will have a big night coming back from his injury, much like Kovalchuk did.

5-3 Caps. Ov with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Then the next game he gives up 5 goals on 10 shots.

I have a very odd feeling this is going to be an extremely low scoring game.

Final score like 2-0, 3-1, 3-0, 2-1

Something like that.

ovechkin and co will want revenge for the game at the start of the season in DC.

Its really going to be up to Gaborik to pull this team out with Lundqvist

The power play will need to score at least one goal in this game for us to pull of a victory. Book it.

Agreed.

We play Atlanta, and they bring back Kovalchuk.

We play the Caps, and they bring back Ovechkin.

If it were the Flyers or the Leafs, I would venture to guess they would keep either of those two out for one more game because of the physicality of the other team. Who knows, maybe not. But if it were to happen it just shows the softness of the Rangers lineup.

Special teams as a whole is going to be big tonight, and the Rangers better not play as loose as they did in the defensive zone against Atlanta, because the result will be the same - or worse against the Caps.

I dont think the Rangers have played particularly bad as of late, sans the Thrasher game. I'd like to see the defenseman not give the puck away as much, and hold onto it a little more if the play isnt there. I'm curious to see of the forwards will come back a little more to support guys like Redden who gave the puck away alot in the Ottawa game.

The Capitals defense can be taken advantage of, but only if you are outworking them and possessing the puck. I hope the Rangers do this, but at the same time dont leave themselves open with a bad pinch or aggressive neutral zone play. Its gonna be a tough game to win anyway you cut it, but getting on the board first would help this teams confidence with the puck, especially at home.

Lets Go Rangers!!!!

It would be so ironic and interesting if Brashear were to pull an incident similiar to what he did on Blair Betts last year in the playoffs. Only this time - to a top line player (Ovie, Bäckström, Green) in Washington and have the Caps crippled with a long term injury of a key piece. Oh to see the leagues reaction - and his former teammates.

Hoka Hey - an eye for an eye - Do it Brash!
