Smyth to return December 26th

Not sure if anyone has checked Hammond's blog, but Smyth may be out for a significant amount of time, and Scuderi still isn't ready. Tomorrow's game v. the Flyers should be tough.

Frolov is skating with Williams and Kopitar, and Murray hasn't decided who he will put on the LW with Handzus and Simmonds yet.

So...

Who gets called up? Moller looked shaky and got knocked around like a ping pong ball during his brief call up. Has Loktionov earned a shot?

Is this really panic time if Smyth is out for an extended period (20+ games). Or do the Kings plug along? I think it's fairly obvious how much of an effect Smyth has had on this team. Will his absence absolutely devastate this team, their growing maturity, and their torrid scoring pace?

My projected lineup:

Frolov-Kopitar-Williams
Parse-Stoll-Brown
Purcell-Handzus-Simmonds
Ivanans-Richardson-Clune
Harrold

I would play Harrold over Purcell and I am not proud to admit it.

Purcell gets promoted to 3rd line and then they play Harrold in his place. No call-up is my prediction.

well, we haven't seen the placed on IR, retroactive to... statement issued yet.

there isn't one player who doesn't need to come hard on Wednesday.

I'm with Reaper right now. I think we should call up Clune and play him on the fourth, bumping Purcell up to third line LW. We need more toughness on that fourth line, and Clune will provide just that. He's also a lighter weight class than Ivanans, and therefore could actually pick fights in this league. Ivanans has like a half a dozen skaters in this entire league who are willing to fight him.

He just had two MWs..okay, light-HWs at best make him look foolish over the weekend.

The myth of no takers for Ivanans is just that: a myth.

You don't get takers when you don't ask for any and you turn them down when they ask. The latter has happened on more than one occasion this year.

Here's a video of the play that probably hurt Smyth, along with some suggestions about what his injury could be.

This will give Kopi a chance to prove that his hot start wasn't because of Smyth. Frolov-Kopitar-Williams could score some sexy goals, but has no grit whatsoever.

I'm saying it's the bicep for Smyth. I haven't seen the video, only everyone saying elbow/shoulder, thought I'd meet halfway.

Hey, thanks for doing the legwork.

Couldn't quite tell whether it's the shoulder, elbow or perhaps even the pecs but he's a tough guy. Give him some rest and some flinstone vitamins and he's should be good to go.

First, I figured it was on that play and my continued hate for Keith Ballard continues to grow. This is the clown that KO'd Demitra late in the season the last time LA was in playoff contention and he ran away from Avery in that same game. Fast forward to last season and he's taking his usual low-hit parade to Staples when Ivanans embarasses him for an entire shift..he won't fight him but he will go and pick a fight with noted heavy KYLE CALDER!.

Also, without looking at the box score, I believe he took a penalty in the 1st period for going at Smyth's knees which Smyth was not pleased with. Throw on the OT hit against Johnson and you have a guy that should be at the top of ever LA Kings fan's "hate list". Still brings a smile to my face when I think about Ivanans running him through the end boards during the fateful "Turris/Hickey" game. You people curse Kopitar for winning that game at the end...I just think about Ballard writhing and screaming on the ice.

If the injury is from the hit, then I'm going to say ribs/pectoral muscle issue. If it's from falling to the ice, I will say elbow. I believe he came back and played after that so I would be inclined to believe it's more of a rib issue and not an elbow/shoulder. I fractured my elbow a few years back rollerskating and, while I continued drinking and carousing for the rest of the night, I couldn't bend my elbow no matter how hard I tried: not because it hurt but because the elbow would just not listen to what I was telling it to do! This was only a hairline fracture that required a sling for 4 weeks and that's all so I doubt they would throw him back out there with a serious joint injury.

I'm going to say 2-4 weeks tops.

I was talking the kind of grit that Smyth brought, no one else brings that.

I hope you are right BigKing.
