Funny how one player out and the Kings offense now looks mediocre.

Let's hope Ray Whitney is donning a Kings jersey soon.

I think we all knew this was going to happen with Smyth at some point, hence the title of the thread, but this really magnifies the failure that has been Purcell so far.

Everybody is going to need to step it up but I'm looking at one guy in particular who really needs to turn it on and that is the captain of this team. Here you go Brown, playoff team at the quarter mark that just lost a chunk of scoring, grit and leadership.

Let's see it.

I would like to see Brad with more ice time. He is just itching for his first goal this season.

I'd love to see that, and in the process, rid the team of Teddy Purcell.

You have to remember the Parse-Stoll-Purcell played great together for four games, so if TM is smart, he reunites them and puts Brownie on the LW with Handzus and Simmonds. The fourth line does'nt belong in the NHL with whats left, so it does not matter who he puts there.

I'd rather have Ruutu but getting him would cost a little extra.

The video looks like it could be:

a. cracked rib, from the angle of the hit, although Ballard honestly didn't hit him that hard
b. left shoulder, from falling to the ice, which is the same shoulder JMFJ rammed into the turnbuckle
c. elbow/bicep, from the angle of the fall, which could have torn/strained a lower arm muscle

I think C would be the best option, and hopefully only a strain. Even so, 4-6 weeks isn't THAT bad. He'll be back before the Olympic break, have plenty of time during the break to continue to rehab, and hopefully play the rest of the season.

I have to point out, though, that he did skate at least one, short shift after the hit/fall. If it was something as excruciating as a blown shoulder, or torn bicep, I doubt even Smyth could have stepped back on the ice after that. I'm thinking/hoping that whatever the injury was, it wasn't TOO serious, considering he attempted a shift or two afterward.

hip flexor, just to be different. depending on how long his legs are in relation to his body it could still be considered an upper body injury. ive seen it in models.

im gay, trust me.

I agree. Come on Brownie.

Now our line up resembles last year's minus Quincey - in Randy Jones/Scott Parse.

We'll see how Kopitar plays when the defense is focused on him again because of Ryan Smyth being out.

Players that need particularly to step up.

Brown
Stoll
Frolov

If these 3 players step up it will take the pressure off Kopitar without Smyth in the lineup and we will be ok.

Also, without Scuderi.

Johnson - needs to be smarter

This guy has had a heck of a season. Its unforunate about his injury.

Any word yet on the injury or length?

I would assume anything 2 weeks and longer they would place him on the IR?

Just an FYI, if Smyth is out, it's bad. He's a warrior that will play through pain and injury. If he's out, he can't play or the coaching staff won't let him play.

The kings only have 22 players on the active roster, so IR isn't really necessary, but i have no idea if they actually will.

Why are the Kings being such tight wads about calling guys up or holding extra players...?

Clune should be up, no doubt and if they want scoring, I don't know who they look too? Mikus? Loktionov is too young and they prob don't want him to taste the NHL at this stage....Bud Holloway? Justin Azevedo? Segal? He has NHL experience...

Moller stunk in his brief call up and showed he probably needs a few seasons in the AHL.

Not to mention about another 4" to 5" in height and another 35 pounds of muscle.
