New York Rangers All Decade Team - First Line Center

We are quickly approaching the end of the first decade of the 21st Century. It is time for us the fans to pick who we would want as our All-Decade Team. In the next few weeks 22 polls will be posted to fill the team. 13 Forwards, 7 defense man and 2 goalies will be chosen.

The Third poll will be for the First Line Center.

Starting Goaltender: Henrik Lundqvist
Backup Goalie: Mike Richter

LOL, what a pathetic list. Ah, what a team we have here, folks. Every player here was a has-been or a never-was.

Is this based off of their performance with the Rangers this decade, performance in total during this decade, or any other factors?

Some numbers:

Player Games Played Goals Assists Points PPG PIM
Michael Nylander 534 127 304 431 0.81 318
Eric Lindros 274 82 124 206 0.75 452
Petr Nedved 409 108 157 265 0.65 298
Mark Messier 277 67 106 173 0.62 193
Scott Gomez 706 144 461 605 0.86 461
Chris Drury 645 131 388 519 0.80 392
Vinny Prospal 623 159 317 476 0.76 346
Matt Cullen 603 126 205 331 0.55 274

Based off 2000/01 to present, Gomez is the "best" option. If you only count time spent with the Rangers, Nylander wins as he scored as a PPG pace when he was here.

EDIT: Sorry, no clue how pnep and others post tables on here, so no formatting.

Stats-wise it should be Gomez, Nylander, Drury, Prospal.

Personally, I'd rather see Mess and Nedved in there for service to the Rangers. A lot of people forget (or like to forget) that Nedved spent 7 seasons and 478 games here.

He was a good producer during that time too. Im not on board with Prospal because he has played all of 20 games here and like 11 have been on the wing. To put that over our top center for a period of about 4 years is bogus.

I went Nylander, Gomez was second for me. Would have had Nedved there too.

Despite the fact that he spent about 10 minutes a game skating in circles, Nylander seems the best choice here.

Nylander solely on the fact that Jagr is going to be that top line RW

some votes are with their heads some with their hearts. mine unfortunately for this one was with my heart. the image of Messier wearing the fireman's helmet after 9/11 is one that sticks with me more than watching Nylander skate in circles.

Went Nylander for the simplae fact that Jagr will be my 1st line winger and they had great chemistry. Otherwise I have no idea, sad list.

.

Went with Lindros.

Had he had Jagr on his RW I'm sure he would have produced mor epoints than he did.

Nylander would be #2

I would even put Nedved ahead of Gomez

In terms of all Dacade team, Messier barely gets the #4 spot in my opinion.

Lindros & Neddy had no one, they couldve used a Jagr no doubt. But I can't stomach watching Nedved even though he put up points with us, that dipsy doodle at the blueline, even during power plays, was just unbearable.

I'm surprised that Nedved hasn't gotten more support, actually. I know he's a whipping-boy for many, but in all honesty, his performance on a very, very bad Rangers team in 2000-01 was probably the best individual performance by a Rangers first-line centre of the decade. We all remember the Czechmates line with Dvorak and Hlavac, but few people are ready to admit that only Nedved really had first-line talent.

That said, Nylander is the only player on this list who managed to put together two consistent seasons of first-line play in the 2000's, so he gets my vote.

Boy, what a crappy era for Rangers pivots!

Lindros. He was the best player we had at center this decade, although it wasnt as long as we could have hoped for.
