What is he supposed to say? Have you ever heard a teammate say that their captain is a bad leader? That would be political suicide. I've never heard any Ranger say Drury is a good player though and I've heard some say "Drury is not the kind of captain that leads by example, like Jagr." Yeah, we've figured that out by now.

What do you want them to say? He's a horrible leader?... What kind of message does that send out?

Anyways, I'm not even questioning his leading abilities. Just the fact that he's not really helping the team in any which way. Gaborik is really LEADING this team.

BTW, imagine having Gomez on this team and Drury being shipped out to Montreal. If only Gomez had the NMC! Damn it Sather! So close!

There isn't some conspiracy PR movement that's made it's way into the Rangers lockerroom where whenever a guy sees an opportunity to talk about Drury's leadership that they need to take it.

If they go out of their way to say he's a good leader, odds are he's a good leader. I'm sure at the very least he's a much better leader than what he gets credit for on these forums.

Capgeek.com will have the info about Drury being placed on long term injured reserve. Drury hasn't been placed on LTIR. He may have been placed on IR to free up a roster spot and Matt of Capgeeek doesn't deal with that because those players count against the cap.

http://www.capgeek.com/tracker/team....ate=2009-11-19

Nothing for the Rangers on LTIR. At the bottom.

Brendan Shanahan missed 15 games in 2006-07 after colliding with Mike Knuble. That was Shanny's first concussion. 15 games. You can make a case he was never the same player after that collision.

Drury returned to play 13 days later after being concussed by Chris Neil in 06-07. It's 13 days tomorrow since Drury suffered his 3rd concussion. He has not done any physical activity since riding the bike a few days after this concussion. Drury didn't feel great the next day.

David Booth who suffered his 1st concussion 4 weeks ago this Saturday had a setback in his recovery. He increased his work on the bike and the symptoms returned.

Quote:
DeBoer said Booth is not skating right now nor has he skated since the concussion Oct. 24 in Philly.

"He has to exercise at a reasonable rate and not have any symptoms of [the concussion]," DeBoer said. "We had a few days of that and then he had a setback. Until we get a week of symptom-free exercise, we won't even consider him skating. That's still a ways away."
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports...s-setback.html

That is the same protocol for Drury.

Be careful of the Rangers. When Mike Richter got concussed for the 2nd and last time, the Rangers didn't say much. They sent Richter to go see a few specialists and they determined he was not close to being ready to return. The Rangers didn't leak any news about Richter and then one night Slats acquired Mike Dunham from Nashville. The Rangers also announced Richter was not returning that season after the trade was announced. They knew of Richter's status before making the trade. Then word got out Richter's career was over.

Sather uses Dr.Karen Johnston as the Rangers concussion specialist. She used to be based out McGill University in Montreal. Johnston is now located in Toronto for the Toronto Rehab Institute. The Rangers sent Lindros and Richter to see her.

Insurance issues may prevent the Rangers from sending Drury to a doctor in Canada. A center in Pittsburgh UPMC is where athletes with concussions go in the US. Pat Lafontaine used them. Bryant Westbrook of the Eagles went there this week.

"Didn't feel great" as in it was such a bad concussion day couldn't get out of bed. At first I thought this would have passed much quicker, but it's looking like a minimum of several weeks before he can consider returning.

just my opinion, but he's being paid to be more than fine.

He's being paid to lead the defence and he's not doing it.

He's played better this year than last I'll give him that, but there's still so much more that we are not getting from him that we should be getting from a player that makes over 6 million.

for that kind of coin, we can get 2 players, one that is as good defensively and a bit more rugged and one that is as good offensively making this team deeper and tougher to play against.

He needs to be more than just fine and he hasn't been.

I don't think that I can ever settle for what he has been providing us for the money he is being paid.

I just have no choice but to live with that.

I changed the tag on this thread to "Speculation." There's too much conflicting information out there right now. If one of the beat writers or other legitimate sources can clear this up, we can change it again.

That or keep complaining about it at every single opportunity...and even invent some opportunities that didn't exist before!

This isn't totally a shot at just you but ******* how many times do we need big threads almost totally dedicated to Redden's salary. Yeah it sucks, yeah he's not living up to it, and yeah the Rangers can't get rid of it. We've figured that out, discussed it, refined it, gone over it 100 times. I think we all get the idea.

I really feel like we may have seen Drurys last game. The second I heard "concussion" I told myself I don't think we'll see him on the ice again.

I hope I'm wrong, but I get a bad feeling here.

I don't know if someone mentioned this, but you can pro-rate for games he has already missed due to his injury.

The Devils do this often if they're not sure about an injury... keep them sidelined, and then pro-rate them when you def. know about the injury.

Just had a flashback of the scene near the beginning of Jerry McGuire where Jerry tries to get a kid to convince his dad to make a comeback after his Nth concussion, "Your dad's a tank. Nothing can stop your dad!"
...and the kid tells him to **** off.

If Drury's having trouble just living his life, then it may be time for someone to convince him to walk away.

Right, they make the IR trip retroactive to the last game the player was in.

The easiest way to describe it, at least in my experience, is like a bad hangover that comes and goes as it pleases.

It can be so many things, which is why concussions are often misdiagnosed or missed entirely. You could have the aforementioned symptoms, in addition to things like sensitivity to light, balance problems, ringing in your ears, and a whole host of other physical symptoms. Or, you could have nothing at all.

There's also cognitive problems, like memory loss and confusion. A lot of people report issues with depression and moodiness following concussions, even mild ones. But again, you could have none of those things.

It's a brain injury, so there's no telling for sure how it will or will not impact any given individual. That's why it's such a serious problem and one that bears close monitoring.

It's also why these sports leagues would be fools to not spend lots of money to figure out a way to either eliminate or greatly reduce the risk of these kinds of injuries. Either through rules or better head equipment, preferably both. The amount of problems that concussions can cause to a person short and long term are far too great to pass off. It's sad because so many careers have been ended by them.
