Eric Staal iron man streak over

According to Chip's Twitter:

Quote:
Eric Staal's injury will cause him to miss a few games, GM Jim Rutherford said today, meaning Staal's consecutive-game streak will end.
The streak ends at 349 regular season games plus 43 playoff games. This is great news; not that he is hurt, but that he is going to take games off to heal up. It's clear that he has been nothing like his regular self this season, and I think ending this streak could be a monkey off his back.

By the way, around 20% of the NHL is injured right now.

I respect his streak, but now that it's not a story anymore hopefully he can take a few days off for maintenance like everybody else in the league does every now and again. I did the numbers for the last four years and Staal has averaged about 90-95 hockey games per season and about 6-8 weeks of rest between "seasons". Staal has put more miles on his body at this young age than any other player in the league.

Hopefully he comes back like he was shot out of a cannon.

Sucks for Staal having to break the streak, but it was gonna happen eventually. It has been apparent for awhile now that something was bothering him.

Think we are smart enough to bring Boychuk up an reunite him with Sutter? Who am I kidding we're just move Brindy up and reinsrt Yelle.

I wonder if it is genetics, A high tolerance for pain, training method, or what that allowed him to go this long.

Seems like Jordan and Marc are on the same path as Eric as they have each only missed 1 or 2 games in their careers as well, though obviously less seasons than Eric. (knock on wood).

I agree with some of the other sentiments. Hopefully he can get the rest to heal properly and come back as strong as ever.

Eric deserves a rest ... with this new injury, plus the groin problem he's been fighting ... it'll be a good thing to take time off. I wish, when he comes back, that they'd go ahead and give him the "C" and let him be the team leader that I'm sure he can be.

Agreed, he does need some rest. Perhaps letting him have some rest will allow us to see the 2nd half Eric Staal a little bit earlier this year.

Are the monkeys still even alive or have they escaped back to the jungles? I can't imagine trying to have kept them happy so far...

I was amazed that 20% of the NHL is injured right now.....and it isn't even flu season yet.

H1N1 is in pretty much epidemic status in a lot of places right now.

They need to Mic up Eric with Rowe and Francis and discuss each and every shift that is happening on the ice. This is a great opportunity to give Eric some valuable "learn from others's mistakes" type hockey knowledge. He's at an age where he should soak this knowledge up like a sponge. It will be ANOTHER missed opportunity to let him just sit in the box and enjoy the time off.

According to Chip's reporting today on the "CanesNow" blog, Eric is out for 2 to 4 weeks, not three games as we'd all hoped. Oh well, time to bond with Parker, and let his body have a real rest ... I think that guy's been playing with more than a groin injury, anyway!

Eric Staal's Injury?

All that was reported when he went out was that it was an upper body injury....any further word on what the injury is or updates on his progress?

I checked the injury thread but saw nothing...

Thanks in advance

It is believed he'll be out for another month or so.

At least that's what was reported on the post game show today.

Another month??? wasn't he supposed to be about for 2-4 weeks?

Just read this:

Staal likely back next week: The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Hurricanes C Eric Staal (upper body) could return to the lineup next week. Coach Paul Maurice said the team doesn't want to rush Staal's return and have him reaggravate the injury.
(Updated 11/16/2009).

He skated for the first time yesterday, so that's a good sign at least.

Hurricanes head coach Paul Maurice is hoping to get Staal (upper body) back in the lineup at some point next week, the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Don't worry, when he comes back he'll be 100%. Forslund mentioned the type of injury he had has to heal 100% otherwise it could do more damage. Still no word on what that injury is.

Retroactive. They had to clear a space to call up Pat Dwyer, otherwise they would be playing short a man tonight.
