Zidlicky is a righty. Likely cost around the deadline will be some sort of picks/prospects, beginning with a 2nd rounder or equivalent prospect. The amount of interest will dictate whether or not more would need to be added.

As mentioned above, the only player I can see realistically making sense would be Drew Stafford.

Barker for Lydman straight up?

PPQB for physical shot blocking 20 minute a night defenseman who can play either side and is a UFA (which sucks for Buffalo, rules for Chicago).

Lydman is hurt and Hawks could get more value for Barker then a rental

Why is Barker only playing 12-15 minutes a night? Is his defensive play that bad?

And the Sabres don't do the Tallinder deal. Hank's been one of Buffalo's best defenseman. The only way they move the first is for Volchenkov, and even then...

would Buffalo better served by trading for a solid second liner rather then trying to get a qb pp.

Only way to do that is re-entry waivers.

Isn't Hecht pretty much a huge albatross and Tallinder your whipping boy on defense?

Last season, yes. Hecht has been revitalized now that he's in a puck-possession checking line role, and Tallinder [paired with Myers] has been the best defenseman for the team.

It won't happen because a one year Nieds rental doesn't get the Sabres to the promised land due to a relatively weak forward corps and costs too much. That being said, I'd love him in Buffalo. If you took say a first and Sekera and a mid level prospect at the deadline, it would be food for thought. Buffalo can't really afford to give up more than that as they are still about two-three years away from serious contention.

Corvo for Gragnani and mid-round pick piques my interest, though I'm not sure Darcy is ready to give away Grags. He's said too many times that Grags reminds him of Campbell at the same age. I think the organization is hoping they can coach up his defensive ability enough to make him a 3rd pairing/PP QB-type player.

Slight correction: Lydman was hurt. He's back tonight.

I don't think Barker is the answer though. While he has the potential to be an excellent PP QB, we need someone who can step in right away. So someone with more experience would probably be ideal.

The main issue would be finding a way to make it work cap wise. Buffalo can part with some nice young assets (Sekera, Gerbe, +), but finding a way to make it work under the cap would be difficult...Anaheim would have to take back 4-5 million in cap space to make it work....

Would Anaheim take Jochen Hecht back in the deal?

Sekera, Hecht, Gerbe, 2nd for Niedermayer?
Anaheim gets a young top 4 defensemen with #2 potential. last year's AHL rookie of the year, and a veteran 2 way 3rd line forward with a not so great contract.
