So.....losing McDonagh for Vermette and Umberger? And I thought that the reason to lose such a prospect was to get a centerman we were desperately needed? The only chance that something like that is true is that if Gainey is no longer our GM. I mean, if Gainey does that, he is, from his own admission, correcting a mistake he made by trying to correct a mistake he made by correcting a mistake.....

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

You don't really believe that, do you?

Gionta has 25 Million reasons to sign here, probably an easy 10 -15 Million more reasons to sign here over any other team.

Cam probably had 5 - 8 million extra reasons to sign here...

Sucks that he isn't getting the assists on those plays but still...His play has been OK.

His salary sucks, but we aren't in a salary crunch right now. Doesn't make sense to dump him for that at this point in the season. Especially after Gio and Cam said they signed here to play with him.

I've been fine with gomez's play away from the puck, but you cannot be satisfied with his production thus far. I hate the fact that he likes to peel off at the blueline instead of going to the net every once in a while. I know he's small but he could complete a little harder around the boards like plekanec.

Speaking of plekanec, here's a guy that has essentially put up double the points that gomez has and he doenst have the luxury of playing with one of gionta or cammalleri at all times like gomez does.

Gomez could learn a thing or two from plekanec's compete level.

I could see it.

Main reason is Tomas Plekanec. He has showed that he IS the number 1 center on this team.

both of them openly said they signed here with gomez playing a role in their decision making process.

Gomez has a rather slow start...but could have a lot more points on the board...we lacked the finish , but everygame he finds someone open in the ****... the only thing I expect from him is to be more dangerous by himself... go at one guy ... take a shot ... crash the net ... but besides that, he's probably 4 times better than koivu, who was worshiped here like a god... everybody needs to chill out.

There are so many reasons why this won't happen... Not the least of which is the team 990's tendency to make up rumours and then laugh at their audience for believing them.

and what if next season he has a bad season like last year? Can we really gamble like that.I personally think Plekanec is a perfect #2 centerman, not a #1

Unless another move is made to acquire another centerman,I doubt this happens.I would have a hard time going forward with a 1-2 punch of Plekanec and Vermette.

I believe Vermette could also play wing right?

It would only make sense if it would make cap room for the Habs to sign Plekanec.

Vermette & Brassard for Gomez and a pick would make more sense for Lats and the french media in general.

They just extended Brassard in Columbus and I think it's pretty safe to say he isn't going anywhere

I really believe last year was a blip on the radar for pleky.

But I agree- He is the ideal #2 center. But he has outperformed gomer at this point. I really hope gomez picks it up. I want to see him do well.

That doesn't really mean anything. Lecavalier signed a 10 yr contract and the Lightning were trying to get rid of him a few months after he signed. Gomez also was only 2 yrs into a long contract and NYR traded him to Montreal.

As a Habs fan, I would only mentally accept that deal if Brassard was included in the deal instead of Umberger. Even though its not like he's lighting it up right now.

that's called being politically correct. They came here because BG offered them a salary and contract length that other teams did not offer... If Gionta had it his way, he'd still be in NJ.... $ talks.

And Vermette signed a 5 year extension at the beginning of the year which is why this rumour is retarded and thread should be closed.

Gionta and Cammalleri are the biggest names to sign here in years and both voiced that Gomez was a big reason they came here so yeah i'm sure Gainey would trade him after 21 games.

No, I'm asking you for a source to back up your arguments, which you are presenting as fact.
