Good game from Ruu. Actually he finally started to play with his full potential. I think soon we will see Ruutu with "A" .

Canes - Leafs... so much fail it's a win.

The refs? horrible (at least consistently horrible though, not one sided)
The teams? horrible
The first period? horrible (for the Canes)
The second period? horrible (for the Leafs)
The third period? horrible goaltending late
all that equals? one hell of a game.

Mo has finally figured out he's a 4th liner (at best) at this stage of his career.

I dont think Rod saw any time in the last 10 minutes or OT.....firmly planted to the bench with Dwyer. Mo even went with Cullen on all the big faceoffs

Guess who lead all forwards with 23:16 TOI. I'll give you a hint. He wears #16

Anyway that was one crazy game. These cellar dweller games sure are fun. Oh and reading this thread knowing the outcome is freakin hilarious.

Don't look now, but we got ourselves a point streak going.

Well, the Panthers all but eliminated themselves from the playoffs tonight, so I guess it's back to caring about the Hurricanes for me.

Yep, 6 points out of the last 8 possible. Without our 3 best players for the majority of it.

Still need to collect about 70% of all possible points on the schedule remaining in order to make the playoffs though

Well, if you look at it from the fact that they're only 10 points out with the same number of games played, that's not too much work. Unfortunately it took them nearly 20 games to get their first 10.

Interesting game to say the least. Like pointed out above, Brind'Amour collecting just 10 minutes of ice time is a bit of a surprise, and a good one at that. The handful of forwards with the least amount of ice time - LaRose (12:49), Yelle (10:14), Brind'Amour (10:09), Kostopoulos (8:55), Dwyer (6:14). Finally, the way it should be with a select couple there.

I thought Cole had a strong game and really woke up after almost breaking both his legs this time. I'd say he was a little pissed off. We need more of that intensity from Cole.

Cullen had good energy all night. Same with Gleason and of course no question with Ruutu. I think if there is one player on this entire team who has really stepped up and stood out for me during these losing times (Aside from Sutter of course) it's Tuomo Ruutu. Listening to his pre & post game interviews, his play on the ice, etc.. his leadership qualities in my opinion have taken a tremendous step forward and he's really stepping up to the plate in these tough times.

Another consecutive game with an absolute boneheaded play from Corvo resulting in the puck being in our net.

Nothing more can be said about Sutter, the kid is down right brilliant right now. Was praised by TSN and Pierre Mcguire all night long. Another tremendous game from #16. He just makes things happen out there every single game.

When you break it down though, there is an even more interesting point in terms of how he has progressed - 6+mins on the PP. Who would have predicted that? Not me.

Then you see Corvo with 33+ min TTOI and almost 21 mins ESTOI. That's a ton even considering the OT. The D corps has its issues but the imbalance, particularly for him, is a continuing issue IMO. He did some good things offensively but had two more brutal plays that lead directly to goals against.

Wow
He has taken this team on his back that's for sure. Forslund mentioned how after the Kings game Ruutu spoke to the team. They have gotten atleast a point in every game since. He's has really stepped it up on/off the ice.

One word for that: PITKANEN

Once Pitkanen gets back, Rowe will be going with him. Right now Rowe only has Corvo to use in situations. Corvo's ES minutes go down about 5-6 minutes when Pitkanen is in the line up.

My point is that he gets too much TOI, period, given his play. Even when Pitkanen is in the lineup, Corvo is out there way too often in critical defensive situations. Again, I think it's partly a byproduct of the imbalance on the blue line but he gets overused under Maurice and he isn't one of those guys who gets better the more he's used.

I can't imagine Andrew Ladd doing this.

His brilliant effort last night was just to show off for the Finnish Olympic man that was at the game last night. Ok, that might have given him a bit extra motivation, but I agree he has been one of the few that has taken it personally to get this team winning again. He is at the top of my list along with Gleason.

And as good of a player as Ladd has turned into for the Hawks, it would take a lot more than him to get me to give up our Ruutu.

I just watched the highlights from the game...

Was that the absolute WEAKEST instigator penalty to Cole or what? Obviously he was bitter about the hit (nice interference, by the way), but they dropped the gloves at exactly the same time. The ref behind the net was staring at the two of them when Cole gave White a little cross-check, and made no signal that he was giving him a penalty there. So after that, there's no reason to give the instigator. It's like they gave it to Cole because he was the one who asked White to fight...could have had a major impact, luckily the Canes pulled off the comeback.

They called it a cross check but there's no way it was going to be called before they dropped their gloves. Absolutely none. Oh well, Leafs fans can ***** about the phantom high stick (and it was a ******** call), this one and a ref effectively cutting Wallin off behind the net leading directly to a goal says "karma".
