Newsday article by Bernstein

Here's a link to Dee Karl's discussion of the column. I don't have the link as I am not a Newsday subscriber. However, after reading about Mr. Meindl's comments I wrote him a, um, nice email. Here is his email address for those who might have any interest in doing the same:

Perhaps a link or quote from from the article you are talking about would have helped.

Just a "perhaps"?

I'm gonna go with "definitely"

I agree. You don't need a Newsday subscription to go on their site. Since you took the effort to start a thread...

Here it is:

http://www.newsday.com/columnists/ja...-ice-1.1607284

But I am glad that you started this as I will send Meindl a piece of my mind.

wow, writing an article is pretty easy at newsday, especially when it has already been written many times. they just need to start winning consistently, then hopefully things will fall into place.

I like how a poor summary of negative things about the Isles is somehow newsworthy.

The Islanders while not excelling haven't exactly been "bottom-dwellers in the NHL standings for years." This team has made the playoffs in 5 of the last 8 seasons.

We're currently a bubble playoff team, how long that will last, who knows? But as of now that's where we are in the standings.

2008-09 - We finished dead last...hurray for current events.
2007-08 - 3rd from last in the East
2006-07 - 8th seed Eastern Conference (playoffs)
2005-06 - 4th from last in the East
2004-05 - 8th seed Eastern Conference (playoffs)
2003-04 - 8th seed Eastern Conference (playoffs)
2002-03 - 8th seed Eastern Conference (playoffs)
2001-02 - 5th seed Eastern Conference (playoffs)

Now say what you want about the crappy results of the above... they're surely not something to be proud of but it's far from the description in the article.

...that said, as was mentioned above me...winning, and then winning a friggin' round in the playoffs will change popular opinion.

Until that time...we can expect the random poorly written shot at the Islanders every now and then. Let's hope this season can somehow bury some of this garbage. When the team wins opinion of it changes. When the team wins it sells tickets. All the other drama can be in the background if the team wins hockey games.

As of now it seems like it's starting to learn how to. I'll focus on that and try my best to ignore the drivel.

,
Mitch

I wonder what his version of Long Island was. If he and others in the article just thought of Long Island as just Nassau and Suffolk, I really think they have their collective heads stuck on their *****. That's fine if people in Nassau don't care if the Islanders leave it; they can go to Queens and make more noise that they have EVER done in Nassau county. Interesting to note that he does NOT mention the possibility of Islanders moving to Queens.

no because that would make sense

I dont know what to say except this is written by the paper that is owned by Cablevision that also owns the Isles most hated rival. They need to take jabs at us, even if it is an article hear or there.

I wouldn't worry about John Meindl.

Sounds like a guy looking for publicity for his near non-existent company.
(look up his website)

Opinions are like *******s...everyones got one.

Beach, you meant well but this thread has failed us on so many levels.

You couldn't even supply the guy's correct e-mail address:

info@sportsbrandedmedia.com

and Meindl looks like a real winner:

Yeah, in retrospect, this wasn't a very high quality post. Sorry guys. I even sent my Meindl email to the wong address. Ugh...
