Barker ($3m, 2012 RFA)
Sopel ($2.5m 2011)
1st -10
Total cap hit going out = $5.5m

Volchenkov ($2.5m, 2010)
Campoli ($0.6m, 2010 RFA)
Total cap hit going out = $3.1m

It saves the Hawks $2.4m this season and if they opt to resign Campoli for $1m next season it gives them 4.5m less in cap hit. Trade him again and they have saved $5.5m and can add a cheaper depth defenseman.

Volchenkov helps Hawks out this season, he is made for the post season. Campoli is depth and PP specialist.
Sens get a young defender signed to an ok contract in Barker, a veteran defender (who they in turn can deal later on for a pick, closer to the TDL) and they regain a first that they used in the package that also included Campoli the previous season.

a bit too much, they have the potential to be what Seabrook-Kieth are too the Hawks.

Assuming the Hawks are in a win now mode (they should be, proposals that have the Hawks trading assets for prospects make no sense), and that Volchenkov has told the Sens that he is not interested in a contract extension (), we could have:

To the Sens:
Sopel (frees up cap dollars next year, tagging room this season)
Kruger (as if the Hawks need even more gifted young forwards beyond Beach)
1st (should be close to the 2nd round)

To the Hawks:
Volchenkov (shutdown D for cup run)

Essentially this is a deadline type deal (moving a UFA-2B for 1st and good prospect, Sopel just taken to make $ works for Hawks) made early.

have u looked at where the sens are in the standings? why are they trading one of their most effective players at the deadline? you plan on moving seabrook at the deadline?

Chicago needs cap space and better goaltending

Ottawa wants Off-D, plus top 6 forward

Ottawa offers and gain around 4M:
Leclaire: 3.800M (ends in 10/11 season)
Campoli or Picard or Lee: between 0.633m and 0.850M (Lee has a .45M bonus - not much to happen here) all 3 have to be resigned next summer
Draft pick? INSERT ROUND HERE
Total: around 4.6M,

Ottawa eventually dump/trade Cheechoo & Kelly about 5M to be replaced with Chicago's forward prospect

Chicago trades and save around 4M:
Huet: 5.625M (end in 11/12)
Barker: 3.08M (end in 11/12)
Forward prospect? INSERT NAME HERE
Total: around 8.7M
i like this deal make the dman lee so he can fill in now....leclaire would be a good goalie for us hes an upgrade to huet and he is about 1.85 mil cheaper...i like it alote we upgrade in nets...lee can take barkers spot at a slight downgrade...and we save 4.1mil in cap space

- for standings, the Sens are 8-3-3 at home, and 3-3-0 on the road: that is they haven't played that many road games yet
- if a team isn't a serious cup contender, it should move UFA-2Bs for future gain at the deadline
- did you really mean seabrook?

Highlighted at things that are appalling in this trade. Absolute "no" to trading for Leclaire. Certainly "no" to trading Leclaire for Huet (not to say Huet isn't a strong goaltender but his contract is costly and Ottawa doesn't need another excessively extravagant contract to add onto the existing ones of Kelly, Cheechoo, and arguably Neil). In addition, another "no" to adding a draft pick for Chicago's enjoyment! Finally, a definite and shrill "no" to taking back 8.7$ million from Chicago! Are we putting Huet or Barker in the minors? Because both cannot afford to be on the roster.

- Two of the teams they lost to on the road were NYR (game one before it was clear that NY was firing on all cylinders off the bat) and the Flyers who aren't too shabby these days. I don't expect Ottawa to stay at a .500 rate for the whole season and six games might be a small size thats leading to a premature notion.
- Unless they want to resign Volchenkov prior to July 1st...
- He did. Seabrook's pretty important to Chicago these days just as Volchenkov is pretty important to Ottawa (well, not these days because he's watching the games from the box but when he gets back!)

I don't like it, I want Chicago to offer top forward prospect and we will add a pick.

You guys might win the cup but not with Huet as goaltender. And we (SENS) are talking salary, please come back with a proper offer.

This trade was not complete... Please rephrase and read carefully. If we trade Leclaire, a 3rd pairing D and a middle draft pick for Huet, Barker and one of CHI top forward prospect, I would listen.

I was also asking to trade either Cheechoo or Kelly or both to alleviate the cap situation. Please read with your brain not your emotions. I would listen, I did not say I would make a trade.
