Chi/Min

Wild trade:

Havlat 5.0m
Harding 1.1m

to

Hawks for:

Sharp 3.9
Byfuglien 3.0
Sopel 2.3

The Wild just don't have the finishers to get the most out of Havlat's talent as a playmaker and this helps the Hawks by saving them $3m in salary.

How would Havlat feel about going back to Chicago though?

no way we would be very dumb to trade buff...we need him very much i would list him as our 4th most important forward behind toews,kane,hossa....he is the onlybig crash the net power forward that we have we need to keep him...

edit...we do have brouwer looking very good lately so buff isnt the only 1 we have but still we need buff...i think all the lines should have 1 power forward crash the nets guy on it with 2 highly skilled guys...ideally we have buff on 1 line, brouwer on one..then next yeasr we bring up iether beach or aliu to play on 1 ...would be perfect

The $3M savings sounds good at first, and I like the idea of getting Harding, but Havlat's salary would give us another mega contract that would in actuality put us in a worse salary cap position. If (big IF) we have to unload Sharp's and Buff's combined salary of $6.9M in order to make it under the cap - first, it sould be done after the season, and second, it should be for a higher salary cap savings than $3M. We should be able to reduce about $5M by trading Sharp and Buff. Dumping Sopel in the AHL would save us $2.3M without even doing anything else. So if we get rid of those three players - we should be able to reduce salary cap by atleast $8M.

How about just Sopel for Harding? (just kidding - Min would never do that)

Harding and 3rd for Sharp...that'd be my offer. Chi clears space, gets a potential future starter or at least a potential 1B, and gets a pick that's going to probably be #61-65. Minny gets a versatile offensive minded forward.

Keeping in mind blockbuster trades very, very rarely happen.

Keep in mind also that the value of backup goalies is very, very low, even if they are potential starters. Remember what happened to Bryzgalov a year or two ago? A backup goalie is not worth a 35 goal scoring all star 2-way forward in today's NHL. Not even close.

No to this deal

I like the Harding part but We dont really save much and Havlat signed longterm given his history of injuries = Not a good idea

Now if the Wild want to do a Havlat + Harding for Campbell + 1st rounder I would probably do that

Minnesota wouldn't do this. After touting Havlat as Gabby's replacement, they aren't gonna trade him for a top-6 forward, a salary dump and a vastly overpaid third liner.

EDIT: Harding too? Really? Terrible proposal.

?

Who is the vastly overated third liner?

Byfuglien plays on 2nd line while Sharp is a 1st liner

Byfuglien would be the #2 goal scorer on the Wild if he was traded there

Byfuglien is the massively overpaid third liner. He wouldn't get a sniff on the top two lines if Chicago was healthy.

Versteeg-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Bolland-Hossa

Sorry Dustin, you 280 pound ****.

Try:

Byfuglien Bolland Kane
Sharp Toews Hossa

and he's closer to 240 pounds, ****.

Yeah...no. Byfuglien has solidified himself in the top 6 over Ladd this year.

This with Ladd-Madden-Versteeg as our 3rd line

wow you obviously dont watch the hawks...when all are healthy these will be the lines for top 6

sharp-toews-hossa
buffy-bolland-kane

you see buffy plays with bolland and kane not versteeg...so that we have a big body to do the dirty work on that line instead of versteeg who is another kane except no where near as good

this will most likely be line 3
ladd-madden-versteeg.....unless ladd is traded then brouwer will be in his place...but im hoping it is versteeg that is traded so this is our 3rd line which has looked great lately
ladd-madden-brouwer..........versteeg traded off for cap space and hopefully an upgrade in nets
