I think a deal around Andrei K and Mueller could make sense if the Habs believe Mueller has upside value. Mueller provides $1.5M additional cap space for the Habs that could be used at the deadline, and even if Mueller excels in Montreal I don't think he gets a deal >= AKs $3.25M when his ELC is up this summer.

Straight up.
Both picked in the first round in 2006, but while Tlusty has been struggling to stay with the big club, Mueller was putting together a 22 G, 54 PT rookie campaign. Yes he wasn't as good statistically last season and leading into this one, but he still has proved much more at the NHL level then Tlusty at the same stage in their careers.

Mueller has considerable less value than most of the players mentioned in this thread.

He's a young player who hasn't lived up to expectations in the NHL. GM's, especially GM's of playoff bound teams, aren't going to give up proven talent for him. At most, it'll be draft picks and their own unproven prospects (think Brian Boyle to NYR for a 2nd rounder).

Rangers need a shakeup, and the Coyotes and Rangers always make good trading partners.

Thoughts Yotes fans?

I would assume Pheonix would want an nhl player in return. Anyways this is kind of a weird topic. Usually an actual fan of the team initiates the topic or a fan of the team that they want the guy traded too. This guy just wants to see a team usa line .

Ottawa would love Mueller

Brian Lee, Chris Kelly and prospects could be used..

I doubt we would trade Cowen, Karlsson, or Wiercioch though.

It was Boyle for a 3rd round pick.

Maybe something like:

PHX Gets:
Dan Girardi
Christopher Higgins

NYR gets:
Peter Mueller
2nd round '10

Not enough upside with Bernier to make that deal...unless you were adding something (pick/prospect) significant.

I don't see Mueller being traded in the Western Conference.

A deal involving the Rangers and Mueller is possible considering the Sather-Maloney-Barnett connection. Girardi would be a good fit for Phoenix. The Rangers could bring up Sanguinetti to replace Girardi. Mueller needs a change of scenery. The Rangers need something for their pop gun offense.

Drury and Dubinsky weren't providing any offense when they were in the line-up before getting injured. You can't assume they are going to become point producers when they return.

All fans must understand that Peter Mueller should be at his breakout season for his third year in the NHL, and possibly even for next year. When people talk about "potential" now is the time for this potential to actually come to fruition.

An example would be Jeff Carter from Philadelphia where his first two seasons he had 40-50 point campaigns, then in his third year started to show his true potential by netting 84 points.

Corey Perry is another example a fourth year breakout, where each year he would show signs of improvement of 25, 44, 54, and then 72 point breakout season.

Right now, you look at a player like Peter Mueller and he has been regressing rather than progressing over the last three years of 54, 36, and 16 (pro-rated) points. Peter Mueller is still a 21 year old 8th overall draft pick, but General Managers look at player development to see if that player has a great potential to become a bust.

At this time, Mueller would be a reclamation project for some General Managers. A perfect example of Mueller's value right now would be someone like Gilbert Brule, a 6th overall draft choice by the Columbus Blue Jackets, that never really lived up to his potential. Gilbert Brule was traded to Edmonton for Raffi Torres, nothing more than a third line player.

Phoenix Coyotes can expect a somewhat decent return for Mueller, but do not expect high level talent or first round draft picks for a regressing player. If history indicated anything, Mueller will be traded for something lesser if his game does not pick up shortly. General Managers will buy low right now for someone like Mueller because they know if he turns it around the price will be a lot higher.

The Coyotes may have to settle for a lesser package on Mueller, but he should still return something decent back for the Coyotes. Just do not expect a high end return for Mueller at this time. His stock is now lower on the trade market.
This almost sounds like a "why my team should be able to get him for cheap" argument. First off for your examples, both Perry and Carter didn't make their NHL start until they were 20, and breakouts at 23. Mueller at 21 still has 2 years to fall into their development window. And a guy like Brule hasn't looked like anything but a bust. Rushed to the NHL too early and getting injured, unlike Mueller he just never showed any promise at all for Columbus.

When it comes down to it though, if Phoenix is willing to trade Mueller at a 'sell low' price, how many teams wouldn't want him? If Phoenix is going to trade Mueller then simply the demand should get them a solid return. Not the type of return that a traded Luke Schenn or James Van Riemsdyk could get, but certainly much more than a Gilbert Brule or Brian Boyle.

The Leafs would have to send Pony or Stajan + Tlusty + a solid D prospect to even stand a chance at Mueller...even then...i'm not sure.
