Hiller to Chicago

Plain and simple -- Chicago needs a goalie and Anaheim needs a quality d-man. Chicago needs to shed some salary, Anaheim has some cap room.

To Chicago:
Jonas Hiller
Steve Eminger

$2,425,000 Cap ----> Chicago

To Anaheim:
Antti Niemi
Cam Barker

$3,910,208 Cap ----> Anaheim

If the Hawks want, they can remove Eminger from the deal -- his cap hit is $1,125,000.

The Hawks aren't going to be able to re-sign Hiller IMO, I don't know if they would do it. Very fair value though.

Not sure this helps Chicago too much.

Hiller is an RFA at season's end and will be looking for a significant raise over the 1.3 million he's making right now. He can likely command at least twice that.

With Huet still signed for another two seasons, that's a lot of cash to spend on goaltenders and the extra cash being paid to Hiller negates any long-term savings Chicago might have by dealing Barker.

i tend to think the hiller only offers the hawks with two non proven playoff goalies, one which cant be traded because of his contract and the other cant be resigned because we dont have the cash...its not an awful trade but i dont really see it as much of an upgrade on what we already have

Huet hasnt been anything but stellar.

Why would the Hawks trade a valuble commodity in Barker for nothing?

Fail.

I would expect the Hawks to rid themselves of Huet during the season after Hiller's acquisition.

Funny how a nice string of 4 or 5 games can totally alter your perception of a player, huh?

There's a few reasons why the Hawks would make a deal like this. First being that they need to shed salary if they intend on retaining Toews, Kane, Keith, Ladd, etc. Secondly, bringing in Hiller (at a dirt cheap price) would allow them to move Huet -- again shedding salary. And to top it all off, Huet has been a disaster in his playoff career.

So how do you move Huet?

If you can't find any takers, put him on waivers and if he clears move his fat contract to the AHL.

Chicago doesn't have an internal budget like the Ducks have. I don't think it would be too big of a deal.

My Hawks are not in as tough of a cap bind as everyone seems to think. Trading away key, young pieces is not the solution. We can trade Campbell for a couple hot dogs and an ice cold Budweiser and solve all the problems and not noticeably degrade the team.

We could also trade Kopecky, Sopel, Barker and Campbell for a case of Vienna beefs and a keg of Bud and still be awesome.

This Buff, Sharp, Versteeg stuff is nuts.

I'm responding in general to this entire forum thinking they can pry our key players because of cap problems.

He's been brutal in the playoffs and makes similar money to an elite goalie?

The Huet hate on these boards is pathetic. He's playing out of his mind right now and threads like this pop up. Even the self-proclaimed #1 Huet basher, Blackhawkswincup, gives his thumbs down to this.
