Chris Drury (concussion) on the ice with his #NYRangers teammates for first time since getting hurt on Nov. 7.
The Rangers have Drury on the fast track return from the concussion. Cleared to begin working out on Thursday. Rides the bike for 20 minutes on Friday. Skated by himself for 30 minutes on Saturday. Skated with the team in a full practice session on Sunday. He won't play tomorrow against Columbus but at this rate Drury could return for the Florida trip. He is seeing the doctor again tomorrow.
I think 2) is much more likely than 1). The Rangers are not getting any secondary scoring. Kotalik has disappeared as of late and his +/- is really awful and might as well mention he takes a lot of bad penalties. None of Callahan, Avery, Higgins, Drury have produced to expectations either. Rushing Drury back might help the pk and with faceoffs but I don't see what other areas it's going to help. The Rangers right now are too one dimensional and could use a serious shakeup.
Chris Drury told The Post following last night's 7-4 Garden victory over the Blue Jackets that he has been cleared by the Rangers' medical staff to join the team for the three-game road trip that includes games tomorrow night in Florida, Friday night in Tampa Bay and Saturday night in Pittsburgh.
"They told me I'm good to go," said the captain, who has missed five games with the concussion he sustained on Curtis Glencross' blind-side hit in Calgary on Nov. 7. "Now it's up to the coaching staff to decide when I'm back in the lineup.
im sure this will get mixed reactions from this board but I, for one, am happy he's back in the lineup, especially following a big win
i feel like now he can come back into the lineup without as much pressure of feeling like he needs to have a lights out performance to save this team
hopefully he feels like he can just go out there and contribute to the team rather than attempt to carry it
also, I'm hoping he see's some PP time because I don't really feel like Avery or Cally are cut out for it
The last couple weeks should show people that Drury is not the completely worthless player hes perceived to be by some. Especially when you consider the extraordinarily poor team defensive efforts (including last night against Columbus). Drury plays a sound game, and it will be nice to have some responsibility back up front.
