Not that surprising. I enjoyed Elliotte Friedman's take on the situation. Friedman agrees that Laraque had no intent to hit him like that, but struggles to keep up, and instinctively stuck his leg out.

Yeah if he knows he's always going to get an unfair treatment, he should be a meaner mofo out there! He should have given a head butt to someone on the same sequence

I agree, good that we can have some young guys take his spot but Ovechkin had a similar play in the playoffs and got nothing. The lack of consistency is pretty ridiculous.

Me too, I hope he's goon for good...

But Laraque is so intelligent that he has done it on purpose to be traded or bought out by the Habs.

I'm wondering if the appeal process covers a team wanting their player to be suspended longer.

Seriously, 5 games is about right. Now since it's without pay, who pockets the money, the team or the league?

do we have the cap space or is it lost?

i know that the player will lose a 5 games salary.

ask david booth about it. Kronwall also has a dirty side ... the more skilled you are, the more dirty you are allowed to be ... plain and simple.

How so? 5 Games, the most games given out this year and there have been a lot of worst head hits this year.

He got what he deserves, hell probably not enough.

Makes you wonder how blatant hits from behind and head shots get less though?

Good suspension but inconsistency of the league continues. Before the NHL starts changing rules, etc etc, maybe its time to clean up your own act and start disciplining players heavily.

The fact that we won't have to worry about BGL being with the Habs for the next 5 games is good, but what bugs me is in the TSN article, it says that the NHL contacted Holland to "ask the extent " of Kronwall's injury before handing down a suspension. So, again, the league is giving suspensions as per the injury... which is retarded.

Some will disagree but BGL got off light I think. That was a pretty obvious knee shot. If somebody did that to one of our guys we would be really up in arms about it
