trade idea

Heres idea for a trade with Carolina. The Blues send Backes, Cola and Brett Sonne to the Canes For Erik Cole and Ray Whitney. I know its not a popular move to trade Backes but we need scoring now. Also Carolina needsto shake things up too because right now they are the worst team in hockey. Your thoughts are appreciated. GO BLUES.

Wouldn't that just make the team way older, and give Murray more guys to take ice time from the kids?

First off I would love to see Vanek in a Blues uniform but I seriously doubt he is available. On the point of being older I agree but you have a mix of vetrans and young players to be competitive. Look at what Ryan Smyth has done for the Kings. He is putting those passes of Kopitar and the Kings are winning. I think Cole and Whitney can do the same for the Blues. We could them on a line with Berglund and we have a good scoring line. This is the only thing holding the Blues back right now. The guys like Kariya, Tkachuk and to a lesser extent Boyes just arent producing. The Blues need some finishers and I think Cole and Whitney would fill that need.

On the contrary, Sabres fans are listening to offers to get rid of him.

Just because the fans are listening to proposals from other fans doesn't mean the GM of the team wishes to get rid of him.

If you guys are open to trading Backes, would a C. Schneider + Bieksa do it? Is there more that needs to be added from our side? Would you take that deal for Berglund?

No and No.
We have 8 defensemen right now, we're not adding a ninth and taking away scoring. Granted he's only got 1 goal now, he's a key piece to the moving forward.

Backes yes. Berglund no.

Look, I hate Bieksa as much as the next guy, but he is a solid d-man.

We would lose a forward, but we have at least 1 other forward who deserves a call up (Eller) to replace him.

I love Schneider.

We could then cut Sydor because I think Jackman, Brewer, Bieksa would be enough experience, bringing us back to 8. Maybe we could add Cola to the deal and the Nucks could add a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I'll have to disagree with trading Backes. With Tkachuk in the the twilight of career, who will the team have as a power forward? Winchester is not the answer.

Just because Backes isnt tearing it up right now, I wouldnt trade him.

I do like how Eller will go to the front of the net and finish his checks though.

In regards to trading Backes to Van., I would want Schneider, Grabner and a 2nd and would send Cola and Toivenen to Van.

Even if Cole and Whitney were healthy--

I think they could be had for less

I agree. Cole is pretty good and I like him, but not good enough and older and too often seriously injured. I wouldn't mind picking up other veteran leadership and show Boyes, Kariya, Brewer and McDonald how to lead as a veteran and to remind Tkachuk and Jackman of their leadership abilities.

Then again, regarding leadership, we'll never know what it is like behind the scenes.

If by too streaky you mean that he sucks when he isn't playing for Carolina, you hit the nail on head.
