Nothing against Lundqvist, just used him as an example as another late round overager that is getting a lot of attention.

Duba consistently sees 30 shots a night and very often 40+. He's an all-star in the Czech extraleague and his numbers are very comparable to current NHL netminders in the same league, if they aren't flat-out better. It's important to note that Lasselburger is not even close to being any kind of powerhouse.

I always heard good things about him from Finland, his team was just awful. Since moving back to the Czech Republic his stock (in Europe) seems to have soared.

#4 in the league stats-wise. He's only 23 years old.

I'm with ya Jake.

But we need to find a picture of him (for our avatars) and start bringing him up in threads that have absolutly nothing to do with goaltending prospects. Also we need to start claiming that his attainable upside is Hasek, and downside is Vokoun - even though (I assume) none of us have actually seen him play.

To be serious for a second, paint for me a scenario in which he would make it over here. That is my biggest concern. Believe me when I say I would love to get a closer look at him. He seems to be consistently performing at a high level.

Duba approached the Penguins management this past summer about coming over, but a deal was not reached. Forget where I read that, but it was one of the two papers.

His team now isn't even that good, I think.

I think he's gotta go on the altar, next to Ben Eaves and Noah Welch.

So the desire to come to NA is there. That's good. It's more of a matter of finding room for him. I guess it also depends on what kind of money he is looking for.

I'm on my way to the living room now to construct my Duba shrine.

Welch, by the way, is rated higher than Whitney in McKeen's latest prospect rankings. (Welch is like, 21st overall and Whitney is 23rd or something like that).

Hopefully not, since he, like all goaltenders, will have to bide his time in the minors for a few seasons.

Right now I don't think he fits into the organization. His window of opportunity may be next summer, because after that we're going to have Crawford-West, David Brown AND Goepfert all graduating.

Yeah, that makes sense. It seems like a lot of European players wish to make the immediate jump without going through the minor league process, but goaltenders are a different story.

All of these goaltenders... so little roster space.

I've been a big Duba fan for years so I'm all for it

Someone shrink that down for me, and I will use it. I needed a new one anyways, the Recchi one I had was old. I am totally computer illiterate when it comes to make avatars. I wish that HFBoards just automatically shrunk the stuff down for you.

Oh... now we must do it. That picture is too perfect to pass up.

Is he doing the robot too?

Affirmative.

Correction: Welch is 19, Whitney 22.

Duba is as good as any prospect his age at the goalie position IMO.
I have trouble getting that message across because he's not getting any hype as he's only shining in Europe.
The thing is, if he was shining in the AHL, he'd be hyped as a new Hasek on these boards, but he is in fact shining in a much tougher league.

Thanks HBW for the time, but BlindWilly PM'd me this, and it works for me.

I just need something witty to put as the title.

If anyone wants the link to the shrunk down picture, I can pass it on.

IMO its not even that close, Welch has been more NHL ready and a better prospect for a while now. When I went to the WBS vs. Hart game Whitney hardly looked like the same player I've been watching in college and in the playoffs last year. While he looked good not great in his own zone, his "O" hardly existed. I thought that he needed to fine tune his game not completely change it. That was just one game though and I'm hoping that we'll see a more settled Whitney in the 2nd half of the season.

Has anyone seen Duba play? I would love to hear a style comparison. His stats are unreal for a netminder on a team that isn't very good. This makes the Pens just as deep in goal as they are on D. Lets not forget about another guy flying under the radar Bobby Goepfert. I'm hoping that the year off won't hurt his game becasue he reminded me a ton of Kirk Mclean last year.

Who does Welch compare to the most in the NHL?

IMO he reminds me alot of Adrian Aucoin without the huge shot. He's a guy that you want out on the ice in the last 2 mins. of a game. He's tough, great along the boards or in front of his own net, and also has alot of sense to his game. While he's not a huge open ice hitter like Orpik, he just plays a very grating game. He makes good smart breakout passes and plays a good transition game. IMO he's not as skilled as Whitney as far as "O". While I'm not saying that it doesn't exist, I just don't think that his offensive game is at an elite level. Oiler Chick and stardog have seen him play more than me and say that it is. Its a tough call because his team doesn't have the greatest group of forwards. Overall though I think that he's the most well rounded of the Pens defensive prospects and I just can't wait for him to turn pro.

I dont know if this was reported here or not, but Duba was the goalie that faced the World Stars yesterday in Slovakia in a 8-3 loss.
