You can't go by still-shots though. That's not how the game is played, so it's not how plays should be reviewed. People did the same thing with Richards hitting Booth, as irrefutable evidence that he should be banned from the league
There was nothing in any still shot or video that said Richards should be suspended because it was a legal hit.
Briere crosschecked the guy in the face and this picture shows Briere off his feet planting a crosscheck to the face. Pretty damning evidence.
There`s no way it`s clean. First off, it was a head check, second, he jumped into it (all this on top of being late). Sure it should have been called on the ice, but since refs are human I`ll accept that they can`t see everything and it could very well be that none of them saw it happen.
My point here is that you can't tell from that youtube vid whether that's true or not. He may very well have done those things, but you can't tell that for sure from that video. Like I said, if there's another angle showing it, then that's fine, but that vid is in no way damning evidence.
And even the still shot...you just can't tell with something like that. You could take stills of tons and tons of clean hits to make them look dirty. That still could be the moment he jumped off the ice, right as he crosschecked him up high. Or, it could be the moment right after he made impact with a clean hit, and was jolted into the air as a result. The momentum of his arms and stick could be coming up and away from Hannan's body there.
Again, my only point here is that the evidence in this thread so far isn't enough to tell anything for sure. If you have better video, please post it.
That sucks; I'll have to watch the video when I get home because I didn't see it during the game. I did know that Hannan had left the game, but I didn't see a replay of the hit on Altitude.... could be because my feed was absolute **** and I missed it, though.
Could be some easy points for the Isles and Sabres if the team doesn't rally around this horrible last several days.
as far as I can tell it was just a late hit. If it weren't for the fact that it was a half a second late, it would've been perfectly clean. And a clean hit that's late is not the kind of something you suspend someone for.
You got it backwards.
It was less than a second. That's not long enough to be considered late. Never has been and never will be, until cyborgs are playing the game. And personally I think Danny was just trying to heave his shoulder into Hannon but contact was made sooner than he thought. He wasnt finished twisting his torso so his stick made contact first. But bad luck doesnt get you out jams so the hit was technically dirty and probably did warrant a suspension.
Holmgren: “We were informed that Danny Briere was suspended two games by the NHL for his hit last night on Scott Hannan. It’s obviously disappointing to not have Danny in the lineup for the next few games, but it’s a decision that the league has come down with and we’ll live with it. We look forward to having Danny back in the lineup in two games.”
Briere: “I respect the decision. I’ll live with it, and try to move on after the two-game suspension.”
show me some cote. Whens the last game we had a fight! i mean a real fight!
briere and giroux is funny, not a fight. But least they wernt Semin slapping. Carcillo's fight against the sharks has been it since nov 12th!
Edit: last actual fight was Asham on nov 9th. and he lost. If this is the lineup were stuck with at least entertain us and make a goon line until we get healthy. cote, carcillo of last season, checks phantoms top fighter atm..... Matt Clackson ur the winner

And again, as for the other dirty stuff...it may have happened, but it's impossible to tell for sure from what's been posted in this thread so far. Nothing shown provides conclusiveness or indisputability, which is the most important thing when it comes to decisions on situations like this.
...I dont agree with the suspension at all...If the refs didnt call anything on the ice, than thats it...you cant retroactively go back and give hooking penalties...if theres no call on the play, it must be legal...and with 4 refs on the ice, someone saw it...
