Higgins to first line; Callahan to center

Quote:
ohn Tortorella said he wanted to keep his top nine forwards in the top nine slots, so Ryan Callahan slides over to center Enver Lisin and Ales Kotalik, while Christopher Higgins joins the top-line duo of Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik.
Quote:
"Maybe it's a position we can use to get a guy going," Tortorella said of the wing spot accompanying the Prospal-Gaborik tandem. "(Higgins) has been a productive player, he just hasn't finished."
Quote:
As for Chris Drury, who skated with his teammates during a rare, non-optional morning skate at the MSG Training center, he stayed on the ice afterwards and did some contact drills with assistants Mike Sullivan and Jim Schoenfeld while shooting pucks at Steve Valiquette.

"He's having some contact today, he'll see the doctor and we'll go from there," Tortorella said. "This could be the last step of it. When he's ready to play, he's going to play. It'll be a boost for our team just to have him there."

Yeah, I am not sure why he would go out and get a center now after having them out for so long already. They are both almost back and once they get back they will have the same problem as before. Prospal, Dubinsky, Drury, Anisimov, Boyle. What do you do with the 5 centers? Move Prospal to wing? He has been flourishing at center.

we were playing our best with him at LW on the first line and dubi centering.

We should move Drury to Anisimov's wing, or vice versa.

wtf, Callahan at center? This just reeks of desperation.

Has Callahan played center... EVER? Why not Avery? At least he's played the position before in, I don't know, the last YEAR?

Isnt that where we are at this point? The team can't score goals. Somethings got to give at some point..right?

callahan played center a few times last year if im not mistaken, and played center in juniors didnt he?

hes responsible enough to play center..besides hes just a stop gap for 1 game till drury comes back, and then dubi should be back in a few weeks.

chillax people.

I'm pretty sure Callahan played some center in Hartford as well.

It does. I've never actually seen Callahan make a great pass... honest. I can't really see the logic here.

I'm fine with Higgins on the first line though. I think he'll better than the others who've gotten a chance there because he can actually hold on to the puck for more than 1 second

This wreaks of a desperate coach. A guy with 2 goals moves to the first line and a kid playing with no confidence is moved to center?

Drury will be back next game. They need to beat Columbus somehow. Hopepfully the first line plays really well with Lundqvist and Callahan can manage center for one game.

we have no playmakers other than Gaborik and Prospal...this team will lose again and this season is going to get worse fast

Cally did play center last season, I'm pretty sure about that. But Higgins as 1st liner?! OK, I don't really know who else deserves to play alongside Vinny/Gabby so......
I'm gonna watch this game, mostly because I can't sleep :/

i don't know about Cally at center but Im actually pretty curious about higgins with Gaborik and prospal

Higgins works real hard and, despite popular opinion, actually has pretty good abilities, he should be productive on that line

Cally's played center before, I don't know why it seems like "desperation", just trying new combos. Seems like they worked pretty well tonight.

Hopefully, you didn't turn the game off after the first 10 minutes!

Higgins looked great on the first line--he definitely deserves another shot at it during the road trip.

Definitely should have traded Higgins for a practice cone a few weeks ago, huh?

he did look great and he should fill that spot until Dubi comes back

Higgins is able to get the puck deep, create turnovers, and get the defensmen on their heels.....then Gaborik and Vinny step in and do what they do best

however, I feel like dubi can do all of that plus make a few plays and get some goals. So when he's healthy he should be back on that line

Higgins is a great player, he just has a hard time finishing.

Why, as you say his value is just about as low as it can get. And he's only on a 1 year deal. I guess I'm missing your point.
