Hensick on Waivers

Avs put Hensick on Waivers....i've always been a fan of him and am not sure why they would drop him.

He will definitly be claimed by someone..maybe the Rangers? If Drury gets injured again it would be nice to have Hensick playing 3rd line center rather then Boyle....

Sure, why not? We'd have to hear nonstop whining about how small we are, but whatever. He has talent.

Doesn't Hartford need center help anyway? I can't see any harm in claiming him. If he's capable of filling a center spot while we're short a center or two then great, and if beyond then even better. If not then we can send him to Hartford. Even if he gets claimed on the way down, what harm was done?

Watching him in Michigan, it was unthinkable to me that he'd not make it in the NHL much less be on waivers at any point in his early career. The guy oozed talent.

If you claim someone don't they have to be on your active roster for a certain time period?

I would claim him for help in Hartford, but I've said it since he was still in Michigan: He is not a NHL player. I never liked Hensick and I never thought he'd even make it this far. He oozes career AHLer.

I've not seen a ton of Hensick, his skills definitely stands out every time you watch him.

But its hard to pin him down in the NHL, will he become another "Lisin" or can he attribute his creative side at the NHL level too?

Could be a very good pickup.

I definitely wouldn't mind if we gambled on him...

For once a waiver claim suggestion that makes sense!
I like Hensick and I think he has an NHL future.
We could use him right now and the contract isn't too bad (at 0.825 right?)

pretty sure Arnason leaving gives them space. Pretty sure they will be doing a 2 for 1 deal at some pt this yr. No pt to keep Potter around with all the depth on D

Arnason was doomed to fail from the get go.

He have never been a good hockey player, and he have really sheitty attitude. Or is known for having that at least. Not a good combo.

With that probably comes a certain stubbornness et c that have enabled him to play some in the NHL and post decent numbers, but, like I said above, he just isn't a good hockeyplayer, never have been.

Its a fair question to ask if this kid will become another Jason Krog.

But its also kids like him are becomes the next "MSL's", like given up for nothing and then gain a ton of value.

He is talented. He have been great at the minor level. He is still pretty young. But the question still remains if he can take his game to the next level. Its as simple as that.

Today, the NHL is not a very good league. The talent is spread out over all 30 teams. For those who knows their soccer, take the talent in the PL and spread that equally out over the PL teams and 10 Championship teams and its not hard to understand how "good" the best teams are...

The result of that is that players like Rich Peverly suddenly look like "stars". Or the reason for why a Loui Eriksson suddenly can look like a consistant 30 goal scorer... Solid players for sure, but go back 10-15 years and it took a helluva lot more then that to be a star in this league. And why not use Vaclav Prospal as another example.

My point with that is that to me their ought to be a bunch of players out there who would "thrive" in the right environment. Today all it takes is a decent talent in a good environment and you get a lot of production. And as far as playmaking skilled players -- we have just the environment for them! We have snipers who can finnish. More importantly, we have hard working players who would acknowledge their role. We have a pretty decent frame.

I don't know enough about Hensick to comment about wheter he have what it takes or not, if he have a chance, but taking on a player like him might not be a bad idea at all.

If he has that much skill and potential, I'm game.

Why would the Avs give up on him, though?

And if he does have that much potential, we will never get him through waivers, someone will take him before we can put in a claim.

what's his work ethic like?

Is he strong?

Good balance? Strong on his skates?

From descriptions, I'm getting a Nigel Dawes vibe. But at the center position.
