Who gives a rats ass if he was #4 or #40 he's a D-man and they aren't all like Doughty. Take a chill pill and relax. By the sound of it the kids got the heart of a lion and a bit stupidly fearless. Just needs to mature more.

So I should hold a 7th round pick to the same standards as a 1st rounder? I'm not saying he is a bust but he hasn't shown anything yet outside of putting up some good numbers in Jr's. Of course, many players put up great numbers in Jr's and never even sniff the NHL.

He looked like crap at the WJC last year no matter how you try to spin it and nothing is changing the fact that he is undersized for his position and injury prone. When you bring up maturity, that is supposed to be his best trait aside from his skating!

Again, not saying he is a bust but people have been preaching "chill" and "relax" in regards to Kings prospects for as long as this board has been running. I'm still chilling on Boyle so let me know when I should worry. If this doesn't worry you then fine; if you don't think it's a big deal though then I think you are mistaken.

At this point I am not expecting a top pairing dman out of Hickey. We don't even need him to be. If he becomes a bottom pairing PP specialist who isn't a disaster defensively and has great leadership, that will be enough to satisfy me, regardless of where he was picked.

BigKing,

You should worry in 3... 2...

I am being patient. I didn't say trade him orsay he was a bust. Hell, I slip on my T-Birds Hickey t-shirt weekly. All I am saying is that if the Hickey saga were a teen romantic comedy, this is the part where the girl finds out that the guy was paid to date her in the beginning even though he is crazy about her now. Let's hope it turns out but this is definitely a serious downturn.

Oh, and let's make a list of all the d-men over 6 foot and 200 pounds that have made it and compare it to the 5'10" and under crowd. It's still a reach man.
No doubt a bigger Dman is safer but in todays game, smallish puck movers succeed. Hickey did suck his 2nd year of WJ but he looked great the year prior when paired with Luke Schenn. The pressure of being Captain Canada was more pressure than Hickey could handle the 2nd season. I believe Hickey will be a solid, 2nd pairing dman capable of 30-40 pts. in the mold of a Dan Hamhuis.

and then there are those sometimes when a bigger, more preferable and safer bet Dman has a little difficulty getting out of a golf cart.

Raise your hand if you have watched Hickey play outside of the glorified international all-star games!

I can't help but think that if Hickey was awesome in the WJC and Subban was terrible, you wouldn't have adopted your WJC-bashing stance.

Yes, I've seen more than his WJC games.

The fact that this is his second significant injury in a short time is alarming and close to a trend.

Regardless it's a minuscule sample size

But you can agree that it's pretty much the best of the best of a certain age group and you'd like your prospects to look good when going up against their peers.

He looked better in the previous WJC because he was playing with a guy who would be playing full-time in the NHL 8 months later and they were still the second pairing, no?

I have far from given up on the kid, far from it. I just don't like the blind love and faith shown him by people who haven't seen him play much and then they throw out the "how many times have you see him play" card and Scott Niedrmayer comparisons.

I've liked DL's drafting so far but he isn't Midas. He's had 1st round blunders before so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that this will be as well. Only bit of solace I can take at the moment is that it's a pretty weak looking draft.

I can't help but think that getting picked 4th is the worst thing that could have happened to Hickey. He will always be under the gun and feel forced to prove worthy of the pick. Which isn't fair to him. If he'd gone 6, 7 or 8th there wouldn't be all this pressure. Now with injuries on top of everyone's high expections it's got to be crushing.

He's a first class guy and I hope the surgery goes well and wish him a speedy recovery.

Once Hickey is healthy, he will be a great defenceman. From watching him in person a dozen times or so, I have noticed he is similar to a point guard in basketball. A more offensive defenceman. He moves the puck up the ice and sets up great plays that often lead to goals and is great on special teams as well.

you scared the s*** out of me. You should consider making a new thread rather than posting in an old thread that has Hickey injured in its title.

Tnx for your observations though.

Hickey is hurt all year. He struggled at times. He gets hurts and he comes back and hes our best player against Hershey. Hexy said that in Game 6, he took over the game...

Lump me in with the rest of us that thought he was injured again. Continue the Hickey projections in one of the more appropriate threads already open please.
