I like him and Pyatt A LOT. I don't know how long their career will be in the NHL given their size. But White in particular has shown himself to be pretty gritty along the boards, even if he's short. Maybe if he could be put with somebody with a bigger size, he could do damages.
For now, he hits twice as much as Talbot.
He is hitting near Orpiks level.
Wow... He has 30 hits in 10 games
He has 9 blocked shots too, had he played 25 games he'd be our best shot blocking forward.
I don't know if he can keep up like thi but is this guy our version of Clutterbuck? I've been thoroughly impressed by him ever since he's joined the team. In fact our bottom 6 is pretty neat now with Metropolit, Moen, Lapierre, White and Pyatt. All of them are quality players that play their roles well.
Not much speed or skating abitlity. He has great intensity and pretty good size, with not much else.
The role of a good bottom 6 player is to be either: REALLY good on the PK, bring secondary scoring, or intimidate the other team by hitting/fighting. White will never produce offensively in the NHL and he will never intimidate anyone. Right now he's nothing special defensively either.
So what's his role? Unless he finds a way to be an effective energy player, which I doubt he can be because he can't score, skate or hit enough to have an impact, he won't be more than a spare part at the NHL level.
Again it's absolutely not to bash the guy, but there are more than a few like him in the AHL waiting for their turn.
I don't really care about the numbers from distant past at this point. I see a faster Begin that hits more (twice as much).
I like what I see. Every point from this guy is a bonus.
Not bad in PK also.
what ? i like white a lot but NO WAY IN HELL he's faster than Begin
What I notice as well about White is his puck smarts...he passes really well and rarely gives away the puck. In addition, he backchecks and twice I have seen him backcheck and break up an excellent scoring chance in front of Price.

I agree. Speed is pretty much the only thing Begin has over White imho. To White's defense he hustles a lot and has enough hockey smarts to be at the right place.
Last night, he was by far the most invold player out there. Is it me are could he play center if needed?
I love his game and with better line mate, he could be good, real good. try him with Gomez and Patches or even Sergei. Now that I wright this, I saw some nice glimpse of him and Sergei a couple of games ago.

Any how, the way he plays, I love it.
The only bright spot on the team last night. Big hits, some good plays with the puck, even won a key faceoff after yappy lappy got kicked out.
Not to rain on the parade, but I have some trouble with this. Seems we're satisfied with effort and intensity but to me that's just not enough.
White's shown impressive effort and intensity, which is nice and is a good way to become a fan favorite. Now the day that translates to actually contributing to winning games, I'll be ecstatic. White has tons of heart, but the problem is he's just not very good.
Mind, great penalty killer, so that's useful. Habitually gets destroyed 5-on-5 with puck possession though, and he's not facing the top of the other guys' lineup either, and he tends to be on the ice for LOTS of chances against. He's actually really lucky he hasn't accumulated huge minuses.
Of course, the bottom of the Habs' lineup is being overtaxed due to injury, but I find it perplexing and a little worrisome that players like White and Pyatt are held in such high regard by the coaching staff despite their ineffectiveness. They are AHLers at this point, full stop. Montreal can't keep giving these guys 13-14 minutes of even-strength time, they need to have better options.
He wins his battles.
he is great on the PK.
He has a lot of speed & finishes his hits.
I say keep him up with the Habs.
He & Pyatt have revitalized our 4th line...

They'll soon be playing 5-10 mins a game max once AK, Gionta and Pouliot are back on the team. Martin usually doesn't play the bottom liners much.
Every team needs bottom 6 forwards. White can fill that roll very well. But we should not expect him to score goal for us. I think Martin has given up last night's game and used him a lot in the 3rd period. As expected, he didn't score any goal. Nonetheless, his play can energize the team. He is the one who finished his check last night.
