If you can call a sophomore player rookie that is.

Erixon has been the best junior defenseman in Sweden this season apart from Adam Larsson. I expect a strong WJC from him.

Thoughts on Brodie from tonight against the Majors.

It's interesting to see him playing a bit of a different role in Barrie. While he's been underwhelming on the stat sheet, I don't think he's playing poorly. The pairing of Brodie and Crawford must have played AT least 30 minutes for Barrie tonight and Brodie saw time on the first powerplay unit. As always, he was solid with puck possession and makes smart plays to get the puck up ice. However, one thing I have noticed about Brodie is that at times he can become a little too narrowly focused with the puck in his own end. He'll try to do it all himself and skate out of the forecheck, rather than make the simple pass. This can lead to turnovers like it did on one occasion tonight. Defensively, I think he's playing much better and more consistent with Barrie, especially in defensive zone coverage. He got only his second point with Barrie tonight, but it was a beauty. On the powerplay, he regained possession of the puck along the boards, spun around at the point and fired a lob pass to Darren Archibald for a one time goal at the side of the net. Just a beautiful pass. Brodie also finished +3 tonight.

Thanks for the update Brock. If you have an update on Nemisz, it would be appreciated, too.

I haven't seen Windsor play since November 6. But I did post a recap of Nemisz's performance in this thread.

Thanks a lot for the update. Was kinda wondering why Brodie has slipped points wise since the move. Good to hear though that he is still playing well.

Nemisz had 3 points this afternoon (1g+2a) in Windsor's 9-2 win over Kingston.
The Spitfires are just crazy!

He hasn't missed any of the season. Those are his stats since being traded to Barrie.

No surprise, but Tim Erixon was named to the Swedish Junior team for the WJ's. Looking forward as always to the tournament.

If Karlsson can't play, I wonder if Erixon will be on first pairing with OEL.
I'd say it's between Him or Larsson, after Runbald's slow start to the season.

Erixon starting to grow on me, even though I haven't seen him play this year.

It's just that all the reports and updates from Swedish posters are all very positive.

Really like the Erixon, Nemisz, Howse and Brodie picks from the last 2 drafts.

Mitch Wahl... he is the one that excites me at the moment... I think he could be alot like Conroy back before he went to LA

Noticed this article about Howse in the paper today, thought some might want to read it.

Nemisz and Ortio both selected to the camps for their respective countries for the World Juniors. Bit of a surprise in that Mitch Wahl was not named to the US camp. Was hoping Brodie would be named, but Canada's defence is pretty deep.

Really like the howse article, habscheid looks like he is sure helping him become a more complete player.

who else is in the running for finland's camp do you know for goalies?

And yes, Mitch Wahl, who was there last year, was not a member of the USA squads prelimenary selection camp roster of 29 guys....Did he not improve, or did others improve more? With USA hockey, it is most likely due to politics

Thanks for posting. Great article and that coach sounds great, esp. in turning his +/- around so drastically, sounds nearly Sutter like lol. Seriously though sounds like one hell of a prospect, hope he works out...

Habshceid is a great coach for Howse to have. I watched him operate for years in Kelowna and he brings alot of elements of pro hockey and pro coaching to the dub. He'll emphasis the small plays and defensive game that were consdiered a weakness of Howse, and make sure you leave a complete player.
Shea Weber, Blake Comeau, and Josh Gorges IMO all owe alot of their careers to Habscheid. Very good junior coach.

Joni Ortio

I got a message from this guy about Joni Ortio. It's a Q and A with him, some questions about how McLennan found him ect.

Quote:
Thought you might find this interesting as you post a fair bit about Flames prospects. I know posting your own stuff is frowned upon here and didn't want to break the rules!

"I was recently able to do an in depth interview with promising young Flames prospect, netminder Joni Ortio, who was drafted in the 6th round (171st overall) in this past summer’s entry draft. Like his idol, Miikka Kiprusoff, Ortio is from the goalie hotbed of Turku, Finland."

http://thehockeywriters.com/joni-ortio-interview/

Find out about Kiira Korpi and that Joni thinks Finnish women are hotter than Swedish babes!
I'm not going to post the whole interview because it's too big.
