Tambellini to speak to the media

Tambellini will speak to the media in about 20 minutes...
Hemmer will also talk to Tencer during the first intermission.

Probably announcing that Hemsky is out for the season.

Yeah, it's on the Oilers pre-game broadcast that Hemsky will have shoulder surgery, and that he'll likely be out a long time and thus will go on LTIR (see the Hemsky injury thread).

The only positive is that there will be some cap relief. As much as the fans here love this team I can't see them buying tickets and filling the seats to watch a losing team for the rest of this season and maybe next. Management has jerked us around too much and the rebuilding should have started three years ago.

That was my first thought too.

I was thinking lottery here we come, but then I remebered that we do pretty good without him in the lineup...

I guess, if the rumors are true, we get to see just what Hemsky means to this team... for better or worse. Personally I thought Penner was playing better with Gagner and O'Sullivan. Maybe we will find out that Hemsky is more expendable than some claim - or, the team might crumble without their 'star'.

Maybe the injury is a ruse, and Hemsky has been traded... there you go, you have the reason for the announcement by Tambellini. Hemsky has been traded... Hello Kovalchuk.

Well then I suppose you should rejoice now. Cause seems you're in for 5-6 months of "doing pretty good"

I made a thread about it, and I still believe in it.. We play a different type of game with him out of the lineup. It's a fast paced game, and it seems to be fairly successful. I guess we'll wait and see though.

Is Hemsky going to be on CHED during the first intermission, or what?

Yeah actually it should be pretty telling to see how they do without him in the line-up for an extended period of time.

As I said, this will show if this is actually the true or not.

I'd agree with the second part of your post, but not the first. The Oilers have already sold most of the tickets for this year through season tickets, so it's not going to hurt them in terms of ticket sales. However, I'd anticipate lots of games where I don't use my tickets. nothing like going to the last 25 home games of the year where the entire goal is to get the top pick in the draft.

I agree with you though on the rebuild. If they'd have admitted that trading Pronger and Smyth was the close of their window to win in the short term, they'd have had a chance to be almost back to a contender already. As it is, we're in year 4 of the rebuild and you could make a pretty good case that we're a worse team now than we were at the start of the rebuilding process. The worst part of this is that all the injuries, and this one in particular, will give Tambellini and Lowe the excuse they need for another wasted season. We can already look forward to the "we didn't have our full line up for even a single game all year" excuse at Tambo's year end presser.

Okay, I expect to be offered a decent amount of tickets between now and the end of the season. I doubt that I accept.

Really?

One of those 'I'm only a fan of hockey if my team has a chance at winning' people?

I kind of enjoyed going to the last few games of the season and watching the players from the others teams even if I knew the Oilers had no chance. There's so much talent spread out in the league now a days almost every team has atleast a couple players worth going and seeing...

I enjoy the sport as a whole but as far as the NHL goes, I only give a crap about the Oilers. All of the other teams can bite me.

Yes, I know that that reads as if Bart said it.

I'm interested to know what Tambo says. "Hemmer's out for the year, but I think the boys will rise to the occasion. I like this team. I like this team. I like this team...."

Then he should be back for the third round of the playoffs. Just in time for the big push to the cup.
