Expected contracts for Cogliano, Gagner, Brule, etc

With Gagner,Cogliano, and Brule all set to become rfa's, what will they receive salary wise based on their performance so far?

Since they are ahead of Horcoff in points this season - I'm guessing $5+ million each.......

Well I bet one of Cogs or gags is gone. I hope they don't give them too much and continue the pathetic chain of contracts we have.

I would bet that Cogs and Brule get two year deals for not that much.

I bet they lock Gags up for a long time for a decent amount. We shall see.

Gags I'm hoping long term 5-6 years at ~2.5-3 Million
Brule 3 years roughly 2 million if he ends up around 50 points
Cogliano 2 years 1.75 Million.

That's what I would offer.

I think they'll try to with Gags, but he is on point for 50+ points this season. That would be two 40+ seasons and presuming he stays the course now, 1 50 pt. one. Where does management pin his ceiling at? What does Sam himself and his agent perceive his worth to be? We all seem to forget his age at times, he's still only 20 and UFA status will come early at 25 for him. What I would expect is he signs for another 3 or 4 years, which gives him a window to see if he wants to test the UFA market. Alot of that will also depend on the development of others (his contemporaries Brule and Cogs, as well as Eberle, MPS, Lander, Omark, Nash, etc.).

I believe Gagner is worth investing in, for the long term. It all depends on how the Gagner camp will feel though, especially if Gagner sustains his current pace. As far as Cogliano and Brule go, for some reason they don't seem to favour Cogs as much and I could see him getting moved as a tandem with Gilbert for ... something. Brule, on the other hand, is providing scoring now, and consistent effort. If he manages to sustain it I expect Tambellini will try and lock him up.

JDD is also an RFA. I expect Gags getting up to $3M, maybe $3.5M if it's a longer term. Brule and Cogs maybe a bit above $2M. I expect to see one of them gone, however, and I'm thinking it would be Cogs.

No more long term big money contracts please. Those should be for players that earn it. Not because you think they will earn it.

Gagner would never take that kind of salary on a long term deal. He'll be able to make way more than that within two years if he develops properly.

18 Million dollars over 6 years leaving him at 26-27 for a huge contract or three sounds pretty good to me as a young player.

Its the equivilant of a 3 year 2 million extension which is reasonable, followed up by a 3 year 12 million dollar extension.

Really?? When Savard signs a 7 year deal for just over 4 million. If that is the case Gagner should give his head a shake.

Gagner should get a "Hemsky" type of offer over 5yrs:
3.000 3.500 4.000 4.500 5.000

Brule and Cogs are worth probably $1.5-2MM/yr over 2yrs a'la Nilsson

How do you figure that what Sam has done is worth 4 Million a year?

David Bolland got a 5 year deal at 3.375 a year

I expect Gagner to get similar if not slightly better than that

$3-$4 is where it will be if we want to sign him long term because it is a long term contract which is for future potential and to keep him an Oiler. Also he has put up better numbers than Hemsky in his first two years in the NHL with alot less support.

Somewhere between Travis Zajac ~ 2.750 3.500 4.500 4.800
and Valterri Filpula ~ 2.500 3.500 3.500 3.500

Seems bang on imo.

This. You sign players what they are worth when they have already proved it. NHL teams have to stop trying to get deals by "paying for potential" because it generally doesn't work.

Totally agree. If someone wants to poach Gagner and pay him 4M+ then you take the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick and move on.

Gagner: 3 years @ $1.65M per year
Cogs: 2 years @ $1.3M per year
Brule: 3 years @ 1.8M per year

Gagner if he continues on his point pace for this season and finishes up with say 50+ this year I would guess he would get a 3-4 year deal at something low the first year then going up

2,3,3.5,4

Cogs you will probably see sign a 1 or 2 year deal at 1.5 a year

Brule will probably get something in the 2 year range at 2 a year
