I would bet that Cogs and Brule get two year deals for not that much.
I bet they lock Gags up for a long time for a decent amount. We shall see.
I think they'll try to with Gags, but he is on point for 50+ points this season. That would be two 40+ seasons and presuming he stays the course now, 1 50 pt. one. Where does management pin his ceiling at? What does Sam himself and his agent perceive his worth to be? We all seem to forget his age at times, he's still only 20 and UFA status will come early at 25 for him. What I would expect is he signs for another 3 or 4 years, which gives him a window to see if he wants to test the UFA market. Alot of that will also depend on the development of others (his contemporaries Brule and Cogs, as well as Eberle, MPS, Lander, Omark, Nash, etc.).
I believe Gagner is worth investing in, for the long term. It all depends on how the Gagner camp will feel though, especially if Gagner sustains his current pace. As far as Cogliano and Brule go, for some reason they don't seem to favour Cogs as much and I could see him getting moved as a tandem with Gilbert for ... something. Brule, on the other hand, is providing scoring now, and consistent effort. If he manages to sustain it I expect Tambellini will try and lock him up.
JDD is also an RFA. I expect Gags getting up to $3M, maybe $3.5M if it's a longer term. Brule and Cogs maybe a bit above $2M. I expect to see one of them gone, however, and I'm thinking it would be Cogs.
How do you figure that what Sam has done is worth 4 Million a year?
What has Gilbert done to earn $4MM/yr?
What has Horcoff done to earn $$5.5MM/yr?
$3-$4 is where it will be if we want to sign him long term because it is a long term contract which is for future potential and to keep him an Oiler. Also he has put up better numbers than Hemsky in his first two years in the NHL with alot less support.
