Eklund rumors - your thoughts?

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?p...3&blogger_id=1

This rumor talks about Florida interested in Gomez with Horton going the other way.

It also talks about Edmonton being interested in Dubinsky.

The last one is Edmonton along with other teams being interested in Staal from Carolina.

Now lets take a look at these how these rumors seem as a group.

We have all heard for the last year that Gainey has been interested in Horc. If this is true it would shed cap space to trade for Staal and get a legit no 1 centreman.
What Would we have to give up to get him. It would start with Gagner and maybe Gilbert!

Dubinsky to Edmonton. This would make Dubinsky our 2nd line centreman. It also states that we are interested in Higgins. A big body that sounds like he needs a change. What would it take these two?
Cogs plus what else.

How much would this improve our team? Is this something that if we get the chance to do it should we do it?

What do you think?

I know that they are all from Eklund and just ignoring that. It does seem like there is talk out there and would you make these moves now or just keep tanking?

Please label these threads clearly as you-know-who in the title, so those among us don't have to waste our time. Thanks.

Amazing that in this current climate, where the CBA all but eliminates any trades being made before TDD, that Eklund can still float out his garbage on a daily basis and have people eat it up.

This GM of ours has made the following moves in the past year and a bit:

Claimed Jesse Boulrice
Acquired O'Sullivan for Cole
Signed 36yo Khabibulin to a 4yr deal
signed Strudwick and Comrie for 1yr
THE END.

Dont get your hopes up ...

leaking goals - check
sucking special teams - check
lack of size - check
lack of elite gamebreakrs - check
faceoff suckage - check
lack of #1 C - check

our team has the same holes we had a year ago... khabi for roloson, O'sullivan for cole, and comrie is all we got from Tambo.

Here is a trade rumour, not from Eklund, but another source just as reliable as him:

3 way deal

Oilers send O'Sullivan, Nilsson, and Joey Moss to Disney for Goofy and Mickey
Goofy and Mickey to Pixar for Shrek and Donkey

Oilers get their Power forward centerman in Shrek and a new towel boy (sorry Donkey, you're still not a stead)

BTW: no disrespect to Joey Moss, just a differant twist on things!

Just a question for those in the know. Has this "Eklund" fella ever been right? Even once?

No way this happens. Mickey's cap hit is like 7.5 or something. Plus his wife would never leave LA.

Dont want to jump all over you bud... I knoe everyone else is, but you are wasting your time... no way Staal ever gets traded here and the cap has made this team unchangeable.... Thanks Kevin Lowe for all your strategising... you the man...

I never heard about Gainey having a woody for Horcoff.

With that being said; wouldn't it be logical for Gainey to snag Staal if he were available (I am betting he is NOT available) and not Horcoff?

My source tells me Mickey's getting a divorce and is willing to go to Pixar for half his contract. Pixar also has enough cap space to pick up Donald duck apparently, so they can be on the same team again....unless Donald decides to retire for the 5th year in a row!

Sorry I cannot give a link, the website is having some technical issues...maybe I'll post the link when things are working again

For those who do not know about Eklund and his track record, please visit http://hockeybuzzhogwash.com/ for more information. That being said, there is some good discussion to be found if you avoid Eklund's blog altogether.

it has been shown that statistically, eklund's accuracy is about the same as picking teams out of a hat.

This Eklund guy is "Viral web posting" at its best! This guy and his web site take advantage of the sheer numbers of people on the web. Although I hold Eklund in absolute contempt for the obvious "let's get hits on this website", I must admit I am absolutely impressed by his backhanded marketing scheme's to suck in people that are sheep being led to mental slaughter. At least he gives people that actually think coherently something to guffaw at.

Go Eks go!! (oops, I mean Esks)

The dumping on Eklund tends to get out of hand. Sure some of his rumors are ridiculous, but at the end of the day they are just rumors and people on this board can sometimes take his word too literally. How many times has he said that the Oilers have interest in player x, only to have a thread created on hfboards saying "Rumor: Player X to Oilers"? The Oilers could very well be interested in that player but it doesn't mean that there is any real trade on the table, and yet the threads created make it sound like there is a legitimate offer that has been presented by the Oilers. Posters further expand on his writing and then hold him in contempt when the trade never materializes.
