So in the last two days he said Staal would be going to Edmonton and now Los Angeles.
It makes sense. Surely he'd be shopped to more than one team, if indeed he is available.

That says it all. Short of sacrificing our top prospects there really isn't an untouchable component to acquire a forward of Staal's calibre. We haven't had a 40 goal scorer since Petr Klima in the early 90's and since we seem to have no problem overpaying for a 40 point "1st line center" why not over pay for a 40 goal scorer?

it is obvious that if an Eric Staal is available. you throw the whole team at them to get him. (well not the WHOLE team )

But my question is, are the Canes really shopping the best player by far that they have on their roster...the best they have ever had? and a player that is far better than any they have in their system?

The only fear with it is if he can produce at a similar clip in the NW, pretty much the most F'd up division in the entire league. But then again, a star is a star and that's something we've been lacking since...forever [well Pronger time was ages IMO]

I am not in favor of landing Staal. I think his contract would cripple us into the future. We need a plan going forward - build slowly so all our players are ready to contend, not build piece meal - this is exactly the kind of signing that has characterized the no vision rule of the Oilers for decades. We need more than Staal to contend and we are obviously not ready to take him on. Now if we could get rid of Horcoff's contract, that might be another story...

Yeah, I know what you mean. Although, the fact that Jokinen was able to make the jump from the Southleast is encouraging.

Has he? 29 goals last year with Phoenix and Calgary... on pace for 16 goals this year, compared with 38,39, and 34 in Florida.
