Great move..

I really like Bartulis. I'm glad he got this done early.

I hope that can work, because I know what really eventually started the pain was that when I was younger, I smashed my tailbone twice. Pretty badly too I might add.

That might be it, then.

I have thighs that are pretty damn big, so I have to stretch for like 30 minutes before ice skating or anything, otherwise I get a ton of back pain. Found out in HS it's mostly because of my thighs, and started doing that exercise, and it's worked out ever since.

I was a great rollerblader until I had these problems. But I'm sure this will be stuck with me for the rest of my life haha.

Next is getting Parent done. His injury problems and absence of any sort of offense game will keep that number down.

Maybe sign him for no more than 1 million a year? Maybe anywhere between 800K and 1M for at least 2 or 3 years?

In a league where contracts are guaranteed and very few players qualify for bonuses, I wouldn't give Ryan Parent a million dollars.

It's different now. We're supposed to be cap-savvy. Supposed to be. With this contract, it looks like they might be starting to get it.

The thing about Bartulis is that he's so unnoticeable out on the ice, which is a great thing. I think he's going to be a Marcus Ragnarsson type of defenseman in that he's always going to make the safe play and he's going to be very poised and calm on the ice. Honestly, I think Bartulis might eventually be a solid number 3 guy just because of the fact he is so calm and poised.

I noticed him watching the Flyers play live far more than I did on television, for a few reasons.

A: He got turned around on a play after a turnover in the neutral zone. He went to pivot to try to play the forward face-to-face, but realized the guy had to much speed, and in a nice bit of skating, turned back around and was able to sweep check the puck away from the guy with out taking a penalty. Showed a good accurate stick, good skating and decent acceleration.

B: I talk to my D a lot when I play (goalie) and our seats were just to the right of Emery's net for two periods. I noticed I was mumbling things at the Flyers a lot of the game ("wheel", "time", "same boards", "give him a pass" etc.). Bartulis (and Pronger and Timonen) was always a step ahead of me in terms of seeing stuff. It was pretty impressive considering they were at ice level.

A million wing wangs for Parent isn't cap savvy? It's barely a raise from his rookie deal. Honestly, I'd go as high as the Coburn contract for him.

I wouldn't. I'd definitely wait to see if he gets back on track before giving him a decent salary. I'd be fine with 800k for 1 year or something like that if he picks it up a bit, but we've got a lot of guys around the corner who could be replacements and I'm entirely dissatisfied with Parent's play.

I think it's the idea of pay them for what they've done not what they (might) do. The Coburn contract was awesome, but Parent hasn't really impressed for periods long enough to warrant much of a raise.

For the record, if it came down to it I'd sign Parent for a million, but not for too long. My point of view comes from the whole thing I was talking about above, and how it's illustrated through OB's extension.

He's regressed, he hasn't earned a raise at all.

Even in a down market, that's generally not how the market for serviceable young d-men goes.

that may be true, but as I've said we've got enough guys coming around the bend that I'm willing to give a shot before overpaying or making a commitment of any real length

I thought Parent's play looked much better the last few games. He has been more physically assertive as of late and was always been a decent/good transitional and positional defender. His puck skills are still not top notch, but there is a reason he is a third pairing defenseman.

You played at Rutgers? When was that? I used to hang out at the hockey house all the time.

What the heck is Bartulis doing? Doesn't he have an agent? He was fooled, 600k a year for 3 years isn't a good deal for him. He should at least end up with a $2M deal, with 100k up per season. He'll really become a low budget player for the Flyers if he continues to develope.

Yeah screw a player for taking a discount to play with the flyers. The flyers probably have their best ever chance at taking a cup in the next 2-3 years. With this deal he might just of secured himself a cup.
