I think it would be brilliant to recruit a know-it-all broadcaster as the next general manager. An absolutely tremendous move!

Well, if he had been GM, we would've drafted Parise , Richards and Marc Staal..not bad.

He's a side show, doesn't have the composure to be a GM...he gets excited over the stupidest things.

This guy would deal the whole team after a two game losing streak.

Gainey's not getting fired

He'll step down before that ever happens.

And then may God have mercy on our souls, because if you think he did a bad job, i cant think of a single guy out there that would'nt utterly destroy this franchise.

Can you imagine Serge Savard getting back in here? ugh.

You know what? I would hire Pierre McGuire. As an assistant GM.

He'd be off my TV.
He'd learn on the job and learn to differentiate between what sounds good and what is actually possible.
He'd learn that making mistakes at the draft table is extremely common.
He'd learn what accountibility means.
He'd do far less damage while learning to do the GM job.
He'd learn that his ego can't take the silence of being out of the limelight, and would quit to be back on TV.

What do you guys think about this and would you be content with him as GM of our beloved Habs?

Positives:

- He knows talent, knows the game and the players around the league
- He is agressive in his approach and believes in building through the draft
- He understands the CBA and the business side of the game
- He learned from the one and only Scotty Bowman

Negatives:

- He is a closet Maple Leafs fan
- He has verbally ripped the Habs, Habs players, coaching and management for years
- He has no experience as the GM of an NHL team
I suspect Marinaro pulled this from thin air. I wouldn't be surprised if we find sometime in the new year that a search firm is quietly working on Gainey's replacement and canvassing some league executives. PM need not be contacted.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. He still thinks Emelin is one of the best d-man prospects on the planet. He stops tracking the prospects after the WJC. Also, McGuire crucified the Habs for drafting Price because he claimed we were set for years in nets with Theodore.

Insane.

Marinaro would love to see his buddy into the mix, but if McGuire gets considered, then the person doing the consideration needs to be fired, too.

Seriously, what gives anyone the impression that he would be a good GM? I'll grant that when he wants to, he can have insightful comments that go beyond the typical media analyst fare. But he's much too emotional and much too attached to certain types of players that don't necessarily equate to effective, and too prone to talk about things on which he knows too little.

Well, it could be worse I guess. Could be Patty Roy.

Seriously, the Habs should look at guys like Darcy Regier, not fish up Pierre McGuire.

He wasn't always a broadcaster you know. He was a player and then a coach and if I am not mistaken he had some sort of managerial job at some point... or was it scouting? I forgot.

im honestly worried about the future of the franchise once Gainey steps down.

Being a GM in Montreal is the toughest job in hockey. And Gainey has handled it admirably.

If you could have Andre Savard back, would you take him?

Honestly at this point i'm not sure that he would be worse than Gainey.

What a mess this organization has become.

Well at that point and time Theodore was the best player on this team and we needed a Centerman more then a goalie witch he was right, are you saying you would be upset with Kopitar?

So is it Pyatt, White or Desharnais that makes you feel all warm inside about the Habs and their future ?

We were at the time. So he was right on. And why don't you say the rest of the story. Seems like you missed the most important part... He did want the Habs to draft Kopitar right? Yeah...

Some of you really need to take your rose colored glasses off and look at the team and prospects as a hockey fan and not a Habs fan.
