True. But what can Holland do? Give up assets just to make the playoffs? That is stupid!
We have cap room next year, let's see what we can do with it.
He even implied as much last night in that interview. He has no intention of spending money for a short-term fix just because a few players are injured. If there were multiple players out for the season, it would be more feasible.
Basically, the Wings (and we, the fans) are stuck with what we've got.

You also gotta wonder about Illitch and his willingness to pay.
There are more and more rumblings about his financial empire.

We do? The most recent Forbes list of the 400 richest in America have Ilitch pegged at $1.4B. He's backed a monster payroll for the Tigers, who also haven't had the much rumored fire sale that sports writers are using to fill their column quota, and we all know the Wings payroll is routinely within shouting distance of the cap.
There might be rumblings but rumblings sound a lot like gossip.

he took over sponsorship of the Motor City Bowl, pretty much out of the goodness of his heart. and didn't charge the big 3 for their ads at Comerica.
i think he's felt the brunt of Detroit's recession, but i don't think he's in any kind of trouble financially.
4 points in 32 career NHL games. Not the kind of help the Wings need at this point.
Was Cleary going to be as good as he is now when you saw him at camp and through that first season? I highly doubt it. Who's to say he cant get better in the right system? His statistics in the AHL arent inflated. Im not saying everything translates to the NHL but who's to say he just hasnt found the right club.
Did you forsee Peverly doing this good in Atlanta? What about Cleary here in Detroit after being moved from 3-4 other teams? What about Marty St. Louis?
All it takes is the right system once to re-start a career. It's not like we couldnt use more "potential" top 6 forwards.

You dont need to worry about money. Just because he pulled the hat from DUMBASSbrowsky of the Tigers does not mean he's losing money and I highly doubt his empire is in question at this point. The god damn guy owns a casino (ok his wife does, whatever), a well known pizza chain, 2 pro teams. I dont think you need to worry about his money.
You will see Detroit spend to limit for as long as our core is around, which is 10+ more years.
This might not be our year, 29 other teams say this at seasons end ya know. We're spoiled here in Detroit and personally, id rather see kids given a shot this year and rebound for next season then to see him take on contracts that are GOD AWFUL to only throw us into a tight spot next year as well. Also, who knows how this team might pan out. We might look back here in June and laugh. Who knows.
Detroit is the top NHL franchise for a reason. They stick to their plans and never otherwise. Why change up a winning formula to fix a problem in December that might not be there in March.
Perhaps we should move Ericsson up to his natural position, forward.
I dont think ive heard a worse suggestion yet.
Boy, some of you just really make me shake my head. Kid is a sophmore. God damn. You expect him to be a Norris candidate by year three or something. Sheesh.

Just food for thought at this point, thats all.
Cleary and Peverly both earned their keep as checkers before they worked their way up in the lineup and refined their offensive games. Bourque isn't a checker and he can't score. This team needs scorers who can score right now, and Bourque does not fit that bill.
This is not the time for the Wings to look for long-term reclamation projects. They need quick-fixes until their good players get healthy.
In any case, I don't see how Bourque does any good for this team.

How come the Wings scored 3 goals the Oilers 2 and anyway the Wings lost 4-1? How does Bettman do it? hehe
He has the refs, now he has inside players as well. But I am surprised it is Datsyuk of all people.
Lebda is known, he either scores for the opposition or he lets them score, no surprise there.
Seriously though, we has the lucky breaks vs the Stars, but Oilers had them vs us. As simple as that. Though Howard should have stopped Datsyuk's goal.

Perhaps he was intimidated by Datsyuk. He is a rookie afterall and now he's 0 for 2 against Datsyuk.
No.... no... that's not what I meant. Thanks anyway

Too bad for Howard and McCollum. I wouldnt've thought they'd be so low. You should post that in the prospects thread where I'm sure it would garner plenty of responses.
We have beaten the Sharks, Caps, Hawks, Flames and Bruins, all top 3 teams in both conferences (we have not played the Pitts), but we have found a way to lose to the Leafs and the Oilers (twice), some of the worst teams in the league.
GO FIGURE!!!
