Used Skates In Calgary

Even having lived in Canada for the past seven years, I've never actually 'laced them up.' A few friends of mine have a rink next their houses, and it was iced this week. So they've pushed me into playing and skating with them. I figured I may as well. Basically, I don't have skates, I can't use my friends' old skates (my shoe is size 13.5) and I'm strapped for cash so I can't afford to buy expensive new skates. So my first question would be, where could I buy a decent pair of used skates in Calgary, and about how much should i be expecting to pay? Any tips or anything i should be looking for?

Thanks all.

If you're in the northwest, I was just at a Sports Traders in Crowfoot last night that had a lot of used selection, and just across the street from that was a Sport Mart which isn't used but is fairly cheap. I didn't look at prices though because I wasn't there to look at skates.

The problem with used skates is that they've been moulded to someone else's foot, but you will probably save money if you can happen to find something that fits well.

I purchased my wife a pair of used Graf 502's at Play It Again Sports and took them to my local hockey store and got them rebaked and put in new foot beds. All for less than $120. She certainly enjoys them and has not complained about any discomfort. I like the fact that she has a quality skate that is broken in and most of all she finds them comfortable.

My 2 cents is that if the skates are not comfortable you will not use them.

I'm going to Calgary tomorrow. Can you hook me up with a discount this week?
