I think he clearly has the skills to be a playmaker, I just haven't seen any manifestation of the mentality.
Meh he's on pace for 45-50 assists which is pretty solid when you consider that JVR isn't a natural finisher and Briere has been hurt/suspended for half the year.

This is a case where I think the number belie what's actually going on, Carter gets a large amount of those from rebounds.

...And? I don't care how he gets them as long as he gets them, I'm also not a huge believer in the "Carter's rebounds are his assists" philosophy, I'd bet that less than 3 of his assists have come from rebounds.
While I agree he has the skillset to be a good assist-man, it goes against his nature. I think he has a winger's mindset for sure, at least offensively.
I wonder who is the superior face off man between Carter and Giroux? With out looking at the stats I would think Carter is ( it'll be interesting to see who ends up taking them, presumably Giroux). I also wonder if some of Carter's reach and ability to cover ice quickly won't be wasted playing wing on defense. Perhaps they'll give Carter center's responsibilities in their own zone and then let him and Giroux switch once they gain the zone (or in transition).

Giroux has looked VERY good at center while Carter has looked better when playing at wing. I can care less how he played wing under Hitch, but to me, this year, when he played wing he had his better games. He actually looked like he was moving.

He has 65 missed shots. You need to hit the ****ing net to get a rebound. Like someone else said in another thread, Carter may not be leading the team in giveaways but, much of the time, a missed shot IS a giveaway and results in a rush going the other way.
But, don't get me wrong, he just needs to work on some parts of his game. He's putting up points and is a good player.

This, this, this. I don't remember how well Carter played at wing this year due to the massive amount of in-game line switching, but I have noticed that Giroux is much better at center then at wing.
These line combos have me even more excited for the game. That Giroux line will be really interesting.
We haven't even played a game yet and assuming that Lavi doesn't constantly switch the lines up like Stevens did, we've already seen improvement.
Crap, I've been up for 25 hours already and I don't even know if there's a stream tonight. Maybe I'll just go to sleep now, set the alarm at 1am and wake the **** up and hopefully there's one?
I can't even describe how terrible I am at that game. Countless times in my life I look up and everyone is staring at me with their fingers on their noses.

Yeah that's a solid point, my counter would be I don't think that problem disappears when he becomes a winger.

I really hope that Laviolette doesn't put Pyorala with Richards on the top 2 lines. It should be this for the better two lines:
Hartnell-Richards-Briere
JvR-Giroux-Carter
So much hate on Pyorala. The guy is a fill in on the top 6. Someone gets hurt, you can throw him in there and he wont look lost. Now that being said, he isnt considered a top 6 guy, but I would say a top 9, who can fill in top 6 with injuries. You always need those players on a team.
