Dan Carcillo: suspended for four games by the NHL

http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=508883

Quote:
(Philadelphia, PA) – Philadelphia Flyers forward Dan Carcillo was suspended for four games by the National Hockey League for his actions during a game on December 5 at the Wachovia Center. Carcillo was issued 29 penalty minutes on a single play, when he engaged in an altercation with the Captials’ Matt Bradley and was ejected from the game.

General manager Paul Holmgren issued the following statement on Sunday regarding the suspension:

“Decisions come down from the league…do I agree with them all? No. I certainly do not agree with this one. We do not have a lot of recourse in this situation. Dan will serve his suspension, and we will move on.”

Flyers forward Dan Carcillo has been suspended four games by the NHL following his actions in Saturday night's 8-2 loss to the Capitals.

"Decisions come down from the league. Do I agree with them all? No. I certainly do not agree with this one," general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "We do not have a lot of recourse in this situation. Dan will serve his suspension, and we will move on."

Carcillo, 24, knocked down Capitals right wing Matt Bradley with a single punch in the first period, while it appeared both players were dropping their gloves. The hit resulted in a nine-minute power play for Washington.

The Flyers allowed three goals in those nine minutes.

"Everything happened pretty quick, I saw him drop his gloves, so I started punching him," Carcillo said after the game. "He kind of came at me the shift before. He was talking to me before. I thought we were going to fight. I don’t know why he waited so long to drop his gloves."

Scott Walker got 0 for his very similar play, in the playoffs. 4 seems ludacris

Oh well teaches Carcillo not to be a ****ing idiot at least(hopefully)

Maybe Maroon will make his debut since he is a LW.

Yes, it was a stupid play for Carcillo not to wait at least 1 second more, but this seems too much to me. 2 would have been better. Also, everyone is being too harsh on Carcillo. He has been a very good player all year and one stupid play shouldn't be the end of him. We've had many players do stupid plays before and everyone was content keeping them.

I also think two was more fitting, but I am not going to complain because he needs to learn his lesson. He isn't ever going to get the benefit of the doubt when he pulls stupid crap like that.

That's ********. You had two willing participants in the fight and the loser admitted to partial blame.

And, there was an extremely long PP that practically won the game for Washington.

Ridiculous.

for most of these callups this year, we have been calling up natural positions of the spots that need to be filled

He suckerpunched a player and knocked him out. He needs to learn that ther are repercussions for one's actions.

He should get sent down to the minors. He very well could have cost us that game

I could see 2 game suspension for this but I really think 4 is pushing it.

They shouldn't tack on 2 games because of the name of his Jersey

I hate still-shot photos, and I've gotten into furious debates over how I don't like to use them when making points, as the game is played and review via moving-video technology. However, just as when Briere hit Scott Hannan in the neck, it certainly was still clear, and I didn't think that was that bad. But I have to do it this time as it helps my point (natural for any non-professional who talks it up on message boards)

Does this look like a player who is prepared to be in a fight? Whether Bradley is at fault, or whatever else, this isn't a fair fight. This isn't showing respect to a player in this league. Bradley still has his stick in his hand (maybe both, not completely clear which is why I don't like still-shot photos, it's not HQ). This is not a fight, it's a sucker punch. I wouldn't have given him 4 games regardless, but at least someone else will be given an opportunity to prove he can conduct himself in a proper manner on the ice.

GKJ you should be smart enough to know that stills tell NOTHING if you advance one more frame Bradley's gloves and stick were in the air heading towards the ground and he hadnt been punched yet.
