All that being said, I don't see why O'Byrne didn't go for #9?
Or number 4? I wonder... No 19 would have been awesome too

Thanks

I should have remembered #5 was retired
And I definitely should have remembered #6 is Spacek (I'm usually good at remembering jersey #'s...I swear!!)

And about O'Byrne being restricted to three numbers...I read it wrong in the few posts I read on page 1 (not from article but from a few posters). I thought I READ that he had only 3 numbers to choose from???, this is why I was scratching my head at this!!

cheers

Don't worry, everyone has brainfarts eventually.

I went to Beaugarte tonight for instance

Anyone knowing Quebec city nightlife and younger than 35 would know why that was a bad idea.

Didn't read the entire thread but I disagree with the OP, the use "Mister" wasn't sarcastic imo. He really meant that he didn't wanted to use a number that's still tied to Komisarek for everyone. And he won't say it but I guess he didn't wanted to be seen as the next Komisarek either.

I am not sure Komisarek was looking for money. He was looking for a change, which I can understand. He just took the best offer comming from a city where hockey is meaningfull.

I totally support his move.

Looking for a change is another way of saying didn't want to play here, despite everything the organization did for him, so i guess paying him back with boos is fair game for those inclined to do so (it's not my style).

Isn't O'Byrne the alleged purse snatcher? He could have just stolen the jersey if he really wanted #8 that bad! Just kidding folks! Easy now!

He's come a long way since his low point of scoring that goal on his own net!

Honestly, I wondered if he'd ever recover from that with the pressure in Montreal, I figured he might have to be shipped out for him to continue to develop.

Kudos to O'Byrne, keep it up!

Actually, I heard that Komi asked him not to take #8 and he would give O'B a game worn #8 Leafs jersey if he didn't. O'B agreed and went to the TD Garden last night to get it, but, was informed that there wasn't a game worn #8, because Komi & several others didn't show up for last night's game.

Back at ya, but all in good fun.

Good comeback! I deserved that one. Sadly, regarding the "game worn" jersey. you are correct.

He and his agent were actively targeting Habs rivals, Boston and Toronto. It seems obvious to me that he had it in his mind that he wanted to be a thorn in the side of the Habs for years to come for whatever reason. If not, he could have easily shopped himself out west to teams that are FAR better then Toronto.

The only joy I take is that he's playing on a crappy team and proving that NOT signing him was a good decision as he's not as good as his legend would suggest. The mere fact he made the All Star team was Montreal fan based and not merited on the ice, especially not without Markov.

There's NO WAY OB said "Mister" as a sign of respect. It's a statement made to distance himself further from Komi whom most Habs took as a slight against them. Even Komi said he only talks to 1 or 2 guys on the team on occasion. He's not well liked in the Habs dressing room, period.

The fact there's a "?" at the end of the thread title is an insult to OB imo.

Boxing Day - Habs at Leafs. O'Byrne beats the living snot outta Mr. Komisarek. And the Habs win 6-0. Just a Prediction made today in the spirit of the season, a couple of beers and a real hate-on for anything Maple Laff

Did you listen to the interview? It's extremely obvious that he was being sarcastic when he said Mr. Komisarek...

Apotrophe has been playing like a nine-armed beast on the back line. He's got a toxic swagger, he's taller and stronger than Komi, can punish at will and win fights and is also nimble, he's been a joy to scope.

We can interpret that comment as two former team mates, one taking a jab at another one who left a huge imprint on the team, and a new up-and-comer. The kind of poking that all guys in a team do.

Or we can see the extreme negative in everything.

You seem to want it one way, that is obvious.

Anyone listening to the audio feed will see that OB is taking a shot at Komisarek. I have a feeling a lot of Habs who played with Komi felt it was a sprta of betrayal. OB won't go away for more money, that's the feeling I get when he said "Mister" Komisarek, and "Im a different guy".

I found it hilarious how people were so down on OB when he scored in his own goal. I was one of the guys who stuck with him because I saw his potential in a confident team in his rookie season.

Funny thing is, for those who can remember, Wayne Gretzky scored in his own goal in the 1993 cup finals against the Habs. The great ONE, scoring in his own net, IN THE FINALS, of all times to do that.

I really like O'Byrne and this is a clear shot at Komisarek. I miss this in today's politically correct NHL player, he takes a jab at a traitor who joined one of our biggest rivals. These are not the first types of comments about Mike either.

2 years ago I thought Ryan was better than Komisarek at the same age. He regressed a bit last year and had injury issues but this year his skills and confidence are growing. I am sure he will eclipse Komisarek's contributions to the team as he is way better offensively. Also the purse incident was him taking a bullet for a teammate, he definitely knows what it means to be a Hab.

Lastly his role in the jersey retirement ceremony for Butch was great too.

Is it safe to say: Obyrne > Komisarek

I think it looks a lot like that.

I heard Komi was not liked all that much in the dressing room. He would suck up to the coach a lot.
