Other thoughts from 8-2 loss to the Caps

Here are some other things I noticed/think from the game aside form the 9-minute power play:

Timonen got more ice time than Pronger. Carle played less than 1 minute longer than Bartulis, although Carle rarely kills PK's it seems.

We only drew 1 PP (officially, Chris Clark should have gotten a double minor)

Carter and Richards both (barely) over 50% in faceoffs

Boucher should be the #1 until Emery plays better or Boucher plays worse.

No forward played more than 20 minutes (although Richards and Carter for the season both average less than a minute more than that for the season.

Sadly, I agree. I was not a fan of Emery's from day one, as I have made very clear, and he has not done anything to assuage my concerns.

However, Boosh has been impressive. I thought he was a good choice for a backup when we got him. He's been around, he knows the league, and he's a decent goalie. But after that preseason and first game against SJ, I figured we were screwed if Razor tailed off.

I'm glad one of them proved me wrong. Hopefully Emery gets back to playing decent hockey.

I still wish we'd just trade for a legit goalie though. Come playoff time, I don't think either of them will get it done for us.

Carrying over from the other thread...

Anyone else hear on WIP today? Pronger was furious at Lavy saying with this coaching staff we arent going anywhere with. I just dont think their used to a coach yelling and other things Stevens didnt do. Should be interesting.
Can anyone else shed some light on this?

WIP also said that Richards resigned as captain, and that didn't happen either.

That'll never happen, as much as I'd like it.

No way are the Ducks gonna give up their starter and best young winger AND take on salary to do it.

Unless you wanna send a Giroux or JVR their way, I just can't see us giving them the talent they'd want without heaping salary on them.

Throw the Islanders a third or a prospect (Matsumo+?) for Biron.

We don't really have any other choice, do we? He's a solid goalie and deserves a chance to show what he can do behind a well-rounded defense.

I was talking about this with DUHockey9 earlier. I think this is our best bet if Emery continues to struggle. Biron is streaky, but he's an above-average goaltender and we know he's capable of catching fire in the playoffs. I always thought he was unfairly scapegoated last year, and I would welcome him back.

Besides, with Dipietro getting ready to come back and Rolosson on their roster, Biron is pretty unnecessary on the Island and we should be able to get him cheap. Mid-level prospect or a pick should get him (not that I want to trade any of our too-few picks).

Would we have the cap space, though, after Gagne comes back?

Wow... overpayment for a 3.03 GAA Biron... Pass on Biron. I say go for Hiller.

Biron makes nothing.

So I think we'd have to move a roster player for him.

We could move just about any of our bottom 6 for him. The Isles would just be looking for a serviceable guy anyway.

Hell, we could do OKT.

That'd be sweet. No use for a guy who warms the press box.

Wolfy already has that taken care of.

On this team 50% on faceoffs is fantastic.

The Carcillo penalty derailed the entire game. You can say it only led to three of the goals or whatever, but remember we had just tied it. Give us those 9 minutes and maybe we lead 2-1 instead of trailing 4-1, that changes the entire shape of the rest of the game.

Knee jerk trades for more of the same (average) goalies would be idiotic. Razor has been good this season, and has been in a slump for sure. But, this team has played like Garbage in front of him going back to the Kings game. I have no problems with Boosh getting a few more here and there until Emery turns it around, but going out to replace him now with anyone who isn't on another level altogether would be a poor move

As for the rest of the roster, I say leave it. Let Laviolette try to get them to play his way and we'll see if they can play like they are capable of before starting to blow it all up.

They might just put him on waivers.

This game reminded me alot of the 8-2 loss we had to Pittsburgh in I believe Stevens' 2nd game as coach. It was just flat out awful from top to bottom. I agree with GJK, Boucher should be the starter until he falls on his face. This team is losing ground fast and it's looking like we are going to be in a battle just to make the playoffs. We can't keep giving away points.

I disagree with Carcillo's suspension and I thought not giving Bradley 5 min was complete and utter ********. I'm not going to debate this point because everybody pretty much already has, but I will say this, it was still a dumb play on Carcillo's part as it completely sucked the air out of the building. The building went from really really loud to really quiet in about 2 minutes.

Lastly, for those who were also at the game, did you notice the big section of Washington fans? I believe they were somewhere near sections 116-114. I've never seen that many opposition fans in one section before.

I think it will play out well, unless Laviolette's style causes total meltdown. Unless that or injuries happens, there is NO WAY this roster merely battles for a playoff spot.
