Souray and Cogliano to Montreal

As per thefourthperiod.com, since it's not Eklund, I believe it!

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/edm091206.html

To Montreal:

Sheldon Souray + Andrew Cogliano

To Edmonton:

Andrei Kostitsyn + Sergei Kostitsyn

I guess our whole 4th line will consist of D-men we don't want to sit...

Souray: 32 year old D on $5.4 million for the next 3 years.

Sounds as bad a Hammrs contract

I hope so.

Edmonton wins that trade in a heartbeat. We already have an abundance of D-men. Although a top 4 of Markov-Souray/Hamrlik-Spacek would look sex.

I think the way the Bros. are playing, and only getting Cogs in return.. We'd be in pretty rough shape up front, unless Pacioretty can keep up the load and Pouliot comes in a tears it up.

If that happens, it could work out for both teams.

Yikes Souray @ 5.4M$ for 2 more years...but this guy was awesome here.

As for Cogliano...do we really need ANOTHER small (5'10) left handed center?!?

doesn't make sense --3 D making more than 5 mill..with markov needing to be signed soon...i know hammer is off the books after next year but it's too much money tied up there

That's not what the link says at all.

In fact, it's not even close.

It says EDM could be shopping Souray.

It says EDM showed interest in the brothers.

It says EDM and us discussed Cogliano.

3 separate things.

That seems like a pretty bad deal for Edmonton.

Markov's extension will have a lower cap hit then his current contract. You can take that to the bank.

It's going to be a career spanning deal, so 7-8 years, around 5-5.5M cap hit. If Gainey doesn't do this, he is truly as stupid as many people on this forum believe him to be. It's the only option he has to keep this team from getting eaten alive by the Cap.

4 defensemen taking up about 20 mil in cap space? Nothx. How the hell are we going to have a complete team if out top 4 D and first line take up 35 mil?

Although that WOULD be a solid top 4, and our PP would pwn.

The line up looks good... That line up with say Sharp in the top 6, could do lots of damage.

Btw isn't Souray turning out to be pretty injury prone these days?

Btw #2: I hope Laraque is also part of the deal if it turns out to be true.

So do I.

The only way I trade them is if we get a legitimate Top 6 scoring threat in return. Only way.

Markov
Hamrlik
Spacek
Souray
Gorges
Gill
O'Byrne
Mara
Bergeron

That's way too much defensman, of course the first one out would be Bergeron, but we would still have to sit two other guys and our defensmans have all done pretty good so far. This trade isn't possible if Montréal doesn't trade a Def and even free some cap space, 5.3 for 2 other years when we will have to resign guys like Plekanec, Price, Halak and others is not a nice situation
