If Souray can pay on the right side with Hammer i wouldn't mind dealing Spacek and Sergei for Souray, but i don't want Andrei to be part of any deal whatsoever.

Is mister here used in a respectful way or a sarcastic one? That's the real question

The NHL has cap space ?

Oh that's right, we're going to trade a more defensively responsible player away in order to make room for Souray.

This trade doesnt even make sense. Your giving away two WINGERS in a top 6 that pretty much SUCKS for a extra C (when you already have 4 C's.. SMALL Cs) and a defender..

This would be a genuinely insane move. You're getting back something you gave up, which is now several years older, more worn, and more expensive -- and you're giving up something you've been nurturing for several years and will almost certainly be worth more in the future than it is now. (Unless you think both Andrei and Sergei have both already had their best years , an obviously loony supposition.) You'd get Souray's shot, for sure, you'd also get all the rest that goes with him (not much of a playoff performer, is he, or am I forgetting something?) There are times when retrieving a lost part makes sense -- Rejean Houle in the mid-seventies, even Brisebois, on his return had his moments and his value -- but this is not one of them.

If Montreal is going to take on a contract like that and give up young talent in the Bros I think they are looking at forwards in return not Dmen.

Why would Montreal want Markov, Souray, Hammer, Spacek, Gill, Mara, O'Byrne, Gorges and Bergeron????

We carry 9 NHL Dmen and take on more salary and deplete our forwards even more???

After being at the game on Friday and talking to a Tampa Bay Lightning scout on Saturday who is there I see us dealing for Vinnie before we ever see Souray in a Habs jersey again.

And I don't see that deal happening either...but why was he there????

We don't need Souray, we have MAB.

I'd take MAB over Souray because I don't think Souray is worth 4 Million + more a year.

Defensively, Souray is overrated. Not as bad as MAB (although MAB is improving), but very poor decision making with the puck in his zone.

Offensively,Souray will get 5 or so goals more than MAB. MAB is on pace for 19 if he played in 82 games this season....

But that Souray contract.... that 4 Million plus can get you a player that will improve your team way more with keeping MAB.

I would like to see MAB back for 1.3 Mil / yr for 2 yrs and save 4 Mil.

As much as I liked Souray but hell no.

Souray would be here for his shot on the PP and leadership. I think we can replace Souray's shot with MAB's.. but 3.5M$ for leadership? No thanks.

And if we trade the Kostitsyns, we can say goodbye to secondary scoring which we lack already.

Can we just stop trade all of our picks for christ sake. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I'd like to get Souray back but as others said it would be very difficult cap wise unless Hammer goes the other way and i don't see it happening.

As far as Cogliano , the guy is probably the fastest skater in the NHL (borh acceleration and top speed) , has good hands and can pull slick moves once in a while but he's soft and very easy to knock off the puck and that we don't need. He's also small and we already have our fair bunch of smurfs so i don't think he's a good fit. We need some guy to create space for our small forwards , not the opposite.

This rumor is bogus anyway so you can all sleep in peace because it won't happen.

That be awesome. Maybe then they can grab Daniel Briere from Philly too. Complete the top two lines of 5-9 or smaller players.

Maybe Montreal can find a way to be even easier to play against.

Why would you make this this deal?

Anyways, if we make this trade and Plekanec leaves the Habs this summer, we would not have a single forward drafted by the Habs that has more than 12 goals next season and that would be D'Agostini. Unless MaxPac scores more than 12 this season. Thats brutal.

Every time I see a Habs proposal or rumor of both Kostitsyn trading together, I know it just made up.

If Gainey wanted to get rid of both of them, he would have did it long ago.

It's just make no sense at all ! Why bring an offensive d-man who score (a lot) but is **** on defense, and a average young forward who had barely do nothing in NHL right now?

Stupid rumor, even stupid move by Gainey if he do it

That makes little sense for the Habs with most of the d-men back and Markov probably a month away, we already have 7 healthy NHL calibre regulars on defense. That deal would also weaken our forward group with AK=Souray.

Sounds as bad a Hammrs contract
Hamrlik's contract hasn't looked bad at all this year with markov out, he's been a tower of strength. without him we'd be with the Leafs and Carolina.

would be win-win for both sides.

The Oilers lose a year off the 5.5m contract and get two talented forwards. We get an upgrade on D (whoever wants to argue that Hamrlik is better than Souray as a D-man overall needs to watch some Oilers games. Souray has improved so much), lose 2 inconsistent forwards (who might bolt!) and get a mid-high first pick.

It would be the perfect trade for a rebuild-on-the-fly.
How the hell do the Habs win in that????

It would be a huge downgrade this year. Souray is not as good as Hamrlik and we are losing 2 of our top 6 forwards for future help. We need skill forwards NOW, not in 4-5 years. The defense is fine, don't touch it.

Agreed 100% and kinda laughed when I read his comment.

As for Souray, his contract makes no sense for the Habs to take on. They've got kids to bring up next year to fill in spots (Carle, Weber, Subban) and with Markov, Hamrlik, Gorges, O'Byrne, Spacek and Gill already here it makes no sense to go after Souray. IMO our defense is set and honestly when fully healthy is pretty solid.

If Gainey is going to make a deal, it will be for a scoring forward. But again, I'd like to see this team play some games with a fully healthy lineup before really judging.
