To be completely honest you cant really compare the two. They play two different styles of game. Allison relies on his size and puck control to feed his teammates. Modano relies on his speed puck handling and sense. As much as i enjoyed allison in LA id have to take modano. If allsion had half the speed of modano it would be no contest
Modano easily for me...and thats no knock on Allison, who was a dominant #1 centerman when healthy (which unfortunately was not often enough). Modano at full-tilt, with the jets blazing is a thing of beauty...world class speed & skating, stick handling, offensive moves, defensive awareness...the complete package.
Agree with both comments. Modano brings much more when on top of his game. He can shut down the other teams top forwards and then place a wicked wrist shot top corner.
Modano on his game is way better than Allison on his game. Modano has speed, skill and he can also be very aggressive, except now whenever he tries to hit his shoulder pops out.
Modano can truly dominate against any team when on the top of his game because of his speed and passing skills. Also, hit shot is amazing.
Allison, although big and shifty, may not do so well against trapping teams because of his slower feet. I think he's amazing, when healthy, but if I were in the Stanley Cup finals, I'd want Modano.
For me, this one is easy. MIKE MODANO. Let's examine the facts.
His GIANT Farrah Fawcett type poodle, Anastasia-Priscilla is easily one of the prettiest pooches this side of the ocean. Few pet owners are lucky enough to have a dog that can do such fantastic tricks. Few pets are lucky enough to have an owner as able to accessorise them as prettily with ribbons and doggie-sweaters as Mike does for Anastasia-Priscilla. And let me say as well, both pet and owner have ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS detal work.
Very few skaters have the ability to control the tempo of a game when they are on. Modano is one of these players. At the top of his game he can be completely dominant. So yeah, Modano
Allison. (hardly a poor mans Forsberg since he made 8 mill last season)
You cant take the puck away from the guy. He would have been one of the best set up men ever had been able to play a few seasons with Ziggy Palffy. He was logging points like a mad man when he played with Deader and Ziggy. He never got to prove it though and the Kings lost a valuable asset. He had a more complete game than Modano since Allison had a aggresive side that Modano couldnt touch.

Modano is considered among the most complete players in the NHL, let alone when you have him at the top of his game. Jason Allison is not, and should not be considered complete. His defensive game is poor, he lacks speed and is not nearly as phsyical as advertised, even though he uses his size effectively.
