Valiquette Waived

Per McKenzie's Twitter, according to the Trade Rumours board. If he clears through to us... any chance he's picked up here? Would it be a good idea? Speculate away.

$725k might be a little too much just to take a chance on a guy to be the third goalie... then again, maybe he pushes for a job and lights a fire under Osgood and/or Howard.

He is definitely not a starting goalie, and probably not even a proper backup. Especially after seeing that performance against the Pens. But, if that makes Osgood and Howard work harder for their position, then fine, but I don't think it'll happen (the acquisition I mean).

He is relatively old, doesn't have good stats and doesn't look that great in net whenever I have seen him play. He got an OK win against Edmonton, but that is it.

If Howard hasn't lit a fire under Ozzy yet I don't know who/what will

Yeah, lets take on more salary and a guy that has an .850 SVP this year and who has looked like complete garbage. EXCELLENT IDEA!

Once DiPietro comes back, I would expect Biron to be made available at the cost of a 3rd rounder or so. He should be the target instead.

Forgive my ignorance, why didn't the Wings sign Biron as an insurance? From what I've read, he didn't have much potential to take over as a starter, and with a couple of years before McCollum, he could've done the job at a cheap price.

Howard is a much better goalie than Valiquette.. So, no thanks... I think I've seen at least 2-3 games from Valiquette where he's given up 8+ goals..

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we -- which is the problem. If Howard starts to go back to his earlier-season form, and Osgood continues his awesome (read: crap) game, the Wings could be in much, much bigger trouble.

The kid needs some confidence and a chance. That's all (not saying that he is a starter in the NHL)

Why would we even consider this, we've already got two mediocore goalies, why add another thats far below even average.... horrible idea.

What ever happened to Cloutier? Did another team sign him or he is in the minors somewhere?

He signed with the Rockford IceHogs.

Thanks. I hope that was more of a scare tactic for the goalies. And not the team actually considering a contract offer for Cloutier.

BTW, does anyone think Detroit should try to trade for Pavelec from ATL or Gustavsson from TOR?

Detroit will be fine in goal this season once they get a few bodies back and can go back to plying an effective puck possession game again. Right now all the injuries make that impossible.

I think we should have signed Gustavsson in the offseason.
