Mueller will be a RFA at the end of this year, so he'll want an underserved raise, potentially significant and Phoenix probably won't want to. Not too mention, they still have Kyle Turris, Mikkel Boedker, Martin Hanzal and some other good prospects they'll need the money for anyways.

Also, he may be big (6'2, 205) but he doesn't really play like that. Pleks is more physical than him...

Gotta wonder what the big problem with Mueller is though...

for a team like PHX, heavily reliant as they are on having young cheap talent, to be ready to throw the towel on this kid so soon, should send some warning bells.

is it an attitude thing? a work ethic thing?
He played and thrived in the WHL under Kevin Constantine, a coach somewhat known for being very demanding on the work ethic/defensive side of things, so it would be kind of surprising that those would be his issues as a pro.

If he is available, and a top 6dman is what they want, I'd offer up any of Mara, Gill, Bergeron, straight up or with a late pick/low end prospect.

not likely to happen, but if I'd love to see us snag Michalek(who is a UFA at the end of the season) in the process...

to Phx:
Spacek
1 of D'agostini/Lapierre
1 of Fischer/Weber/Carle

to MTL:
Mueller
Michalek

Trade him for someone like Belle and unofficially a bucket of money and some fans. They'll take it. They could use the latter.

My guess is they would ask for Pacioretty in order to bring back the famous Pacioretty-Porter-Kolarik line that dominated the NCAA, not that i would do it of course,

BTW, atleast Muller is in the NHL, i would be alot more concerned with Kyle Turris

Please explain? Markov, Hamrlik, Spacek, Mara, O'Byrne, Gill and Bergeron, that's 7 reasons. I love the Gill-Georges pairing, but the man has value.

ASSETS: Has impressive size, hand/eye coordination and reach. Is at his best with the puck on his blade. Can score goals and also set up teammates with equal aplomb. Is versatile enough to play all three forward positions.
FLAWS: Isn't a great skater, which somewhat hinders his otherwise supreme offensive potential at the NHL level. Doesn't utilize his physical gifts enough to his advantage. Takes some nights off.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Inconsistent scoring forward.

Taken from the hockey news...

Strictly from a realist point of view GM Bob Gainey is the type of GM who prefers good skaters, witness our last two trades...GL for Pouliot, Giving up on Chipchura when one of his greatest weaknesses at present is his skating. Mueller is not the type of player from the Cayotes BG is targetting, if anything MAYBE Lambardi...(sp)

Surprised it took 19posts for someone to pick this up...

Maybe we could have had him for Latendresse... hmmmm

Yeah people, Gorges is clearly the odd man out when Markov comes back cause Bergeron, Gill or O'Byrne has been much better defensively than him... Some people really don't see how much Gorges is important for our team...

Why? He gets more ice time(22mins) than pretty much everyone else except Hamrlik.

Gorges is a keeper.

They can get Mara+Carle.

Are you kidding me? Mueller has ridiculous amounts of potential. He is clearly not enjoying his time in Phoenix, but had an incredible rookie year playing with Doan, who is overrated offesively.

Gorges is great but will never produce offense. We have Markov, Obyrne, Hammer, Spacek, Gill, Mara and MAB who can all play Defense this year... and we need secondary scoring

Cammy Pleks Akost
Mueller Gomez Gio
Patches Metro Skost
Pouliot Lapierre Moen

Markov OB
Hammer Spacek
Gill MAB

We'd have like 3 scoring lines! All high speed, high energy lines!
Lol now that I look at it its kind of a random lineup, but could be fun.

No. Gorges doesn't have to put up points to be an important asset to this team. He's the most reliable defensive d-man, that's a great quality. You guys are freakin' blind.

Agreed. I said he was good. I love the guy, but if we could get Mueller for him I'd do it... especially since we have some defensive prospects looking good in Carle, Subban and Weber... where the offensive prospects wares thin.

You gotta stop and think about who you are getting for Gorges here...

I think I agree. And by that, I mean I think I'd prefer to give up Spacek to get Mueller than Gorges. Not saying the Habs SHOULD do it either way, and not commenting on either's "value", but if I'm asked to identify the Habs' "core" on defense moving forward, a 24 year old Gorges making 1.1 million is in there, while 35 year old Hamrlik at 5.5 mil is questionable, and Spacek, who will be 37/38 at the end of this contract, isn't.

If the Habs aren't going to win anything soon, it's time to start thinking about Hammer and Spacek, and whether they're willing to sign them (in their "old age", and probably for more than their worth), or let them go for nothing (a la Souray/Streit) and put faith in the young guys coming up.
