Of course, it played a part although I wouldn't call it ''not fitting into the system'' because you can say the same for a number of other players who are still here.

He was simply a disappointment. He has over 200 NHL career games and was coming into his 4th year. The organization expected better things from him and his improvements seem to stagnate and regress. Whether it was subconsciously or not, he wasn't able to execute the things the coach wanted him too.

At the same time, we needed a center as our depth is extremely weak there. Pouliot obviously became available as well, and that's why he became interesting.

You just don't trade a player because he doesn't ''fit'' into your system.
Gaborik didn't fit in Minny and made it clear that he wasn't really happy there with the situation, but he was never moved.

A.Kost isn't one to fit in the defensive system of Martin, but he got better and followed the coach's instruction.

Lats got traded because he was a disappointment in the organization's eyes and we needed depth at center. They didn't base their decision off the 20ish games he played here.
Andrei is the next one to go, imo. He doesn't fit in Martin's system very much. He's ultra careless and i'm telling you now, Martin won't tolerate that for long.

Also I don't think Lats was a disappointement. Oh he may not have been the player they wanted him to be but last year he and Max were often the best line on the ice, never giving up. And this year, after a slow start they were starting to show flashes again. Against Carolina, Max and Lats were the best Habs line. At the press conference, Martin ignored reporters who asked him about how well Lats played. Then the game after, he and Max saw no ice time(after tearing it up the game before). They were playing well yet, Martin was punishing them because they were not playing the way he wanted them to play. I mean this was close-mind, hard-head Carbonneau-type attitude by Martin.

I always like reading your comments. Even when I don't agree with them, you always bring up good points to justify your position.

On the basis of what has happened over the last two years, where do you think the problem lies with these players? Is it with Gainey and his evaluation of talent, is it with the coaches and their inability to help players improve or is it with the players and their inability to adjust to the style of game that the coaches want played.

Or is it a little bit of all three?

Some of this has to land at Gainey's feet and now he is somewhat cornered with the contracts he has handed out.

Your thoughts?

i think what bothers him is that a mediocare prospect (suposibly hes a veteran now) that got traded, is still being discussed about like if we lost high end talent. i think he also might be frustrated by the fact that so many people are influenced by the hype the media has put on tender (hey, this thread is up on top of active threads) even though hes carrying a whooping 3 points in 5 games. and lets not kid ourselves, this thread has nothing to do wiht pouilot

Laraque is in the NHL. Does that make him an NHL calibre player too?

This thread needs to be shut down, but let's give the rest of the season to evaluate both McTender and Pouliot, and see where the chips fall...Stats are the measurement stick...by the end of the season we should know if this was a good trade for either side...perhaps both will be happy. The one thing is for sure, Pouliot can skate with anyone, and McTender is less than avg speed...Martin has something to work with, hopefully his new student will do what is asked of him, unlike Gui...

Let's be frank, Tender's still a much more popular subject of conversation than Pouliot. Right now Pouliot's still an afterthought.

I'd say give it even longer...

Pouliot will need some time to get his game legs under him, and then there's the question of fitting into a new team/coach/system. Lats has the "head start" in that he was able to get over and start playing right away... but he too will/should be much better for them come next seasons.

I'd love it if Pouliot gels/adapts quickly and plays a solid role with us immediately, but I'll hold any strong judgment of this deal* till the end of next year, by then we'll be able to see how each player really fits in to their new teams long term plans.

This is one of those deals that could very easily be win-win for both teams...

sort of like the Ladd-Ruutu deal a while back. Both teams ended up with a useful player that gave them more than the one traded away was giving them.

*and really, since we gave up one struggling young player for another, at this point it's pretty much a wash (they get the more "proven" NHLer, we get the guy with higher "upside"). With both teams getting a "project", no matter how it turns out it would be tough to criticize or praise either GM based on what happens 2-3 years down the road.

that's only because he hasn't played yet...

had he been playing the past few games and gone scoreless, there'd be a lot of people unfairly upset with Gainey right now.

had he been playing and scored 3 pts/3g, plus added a game winner in the shoot out, people would be unfairly thrilled with Gainey right now.

Once Pouliot has suited up and is in the lineup regularly (we hope!), he'll quickly be a lightning rod for attention.

I think it relates nicely to his birthplace (Alfred) being known for its delicious french fries. Yet it strikes the poignant fact that the ************** will never play god damn it!

Nothing really impressive. He had the classic great start after being traded but already cooled down. We won't be able to judge this trade any time soon.

Hopefully, Pouliot can have a great start too just to shut some mounth.

A big thumbs down to the journalist asking him about how he feel since Latendresse is putting up numbers in Minnessota. Great question ! Let's give him as much as pressure as possible !

its hilarious... the Gainey bashers won't take it tenderly... and knowing the ADL, that comment about "Gomez probably being a Jew because he plays like **** and still makes off with 8 million" will soon get that video banned...
