Can we try to stay out of the box, nonetheless?

Good deal, nothing like a shutout for Mace to gain some confidence.

Hitch did envision this, though, per the fishwrap.

Can't complain about a 3-0 shutout... One of the most boring games I've ever seen but a win is a win, now just do the same vs a few top 16 seeded teams 2 or 3 nights in a row and all will be fine...

A super skilled top shelf goal by Brass to put the game away-I'm happy for him.

Pretty sure Hitch is calling out Nash in the post game news conference. To paraphrase.. "Our big guys have to be better for us to take the next step."

Give the fan cam credit they have managed to misspell R.J. Umberger and Jan Hejda the last two games.

R.J. UmbUrger
Jan Hedja

Back...

I'm taking this win with a huge lump of salt. We looked great in the first, just positively great but mailed it in the second period and didn't come alive until about halfway through the third.

I'll take the win but this wasn't a "resurgent" win.

And Nash looked extra lazy tonight in my opinion, he only looked motivated when he had the puck. I thought he was supposed to be our posterboy of "two way play"? L-A-Z-Y
Pick it up Rick.

Not much to pick on besides that, it was an alright game for us. And Mase earned that shutout with some great saves on the night

Mase will most likely go again tomorrow. Hopefully they will step it up and earn another 2 points against Lord Vader.

Back from the game. Saw a person or two above call this game boring; can't say that I agreed. There were a lot of offensive chances in the first period. Frustrating that there weren't more goals out of them but, still, the Jackets had the puck in the correct end of the rink for a LOT of time in that period and on the whole looked much more alive than they had in the last two games.

Second period, as was noted above, was pretty dicey. I suspect that a combination of some decent defensive play and goaltending on the Jackets' part combined with some offensive inefficiency on the Panthers' part is all that kept the shutout alive in that period.

Third period was in between the two, though I thought the PK followed by Brassard's goal was a great sequence. Even better, the Jackets kept the Panthers from rebounding after going up 2-0. Seeing the goalie get pulled that early (about 2:30 left, as I recall) added a little extra excitement to the end of the game.

I know that there were a lot fewer times during this game when I was mad about the play on the ice. I'm hoping that wasn't just the Jackets finally running into a team playing at their level... There were also a number of times during the game when I remember thinking that someone made an especially good play, usually on defense. I can't recall those specifics, though I think maybe one of them was a nice play by Russell in the first period (on a breakaway)?

Since the only thing consistent about this year's team is their inconsistency, I'm not ready to get ultra-enthusiastic yet. Still, this is the most fun I've had watching a game since Dallas. (Yes, even more fun than Umby's hat trick game. We didn't blow a two-goal lead in this one!) If they get two points in regulation tomorrow night, though, I may not be able to stay cynical.

It was right in front of me. Brassard put it through a very small space. The only way most goalies stop that shot is luck.
