What do you make of this guy? 5 games (4+7=11) in off season is quite nice record. Last game against Malmö he scored a hattrick, could he have a brakeout season?

I like the guy. Whereas the veterans were having a depression and prospects like Korpikoski and Widing were not able to take the next step, he was one of the few bright spots in last year's TPS and seems to continue on the right track.

15+ goals this season would not surprise me.

Nor would it surprise me. Makkonen seems to be the real deal. He looked good even in juniors and I thought he should have gotten a chance with the TPS' mens team earlier. Sure needs to develop every aspect of his game further but he certainly has the tools for success.

Kinda odd that he wasnt drafted, or was he? At 21 years old, he's starting to look like a good prospect.

15+? Phah! Make it 20+!!
Another guy who has caught my eye is Roni Andersson from Jokerit.
I haven't seen them live this offseason, but their stats look quite nice.

I hope that Makkonen stays here in Finland next season. Because it's not nice if good guys leaves league.

Thanx! I hope the Wings can get him, we had luck with Leino in the Finnish Elite and we also have Filpulla so our lock room has fellow fins to entice him over.

Makkonen signed a 1+1 year deal with the KHL-team Dinamo Minsk. Makkonen said that Pittsburgh were also interested but he felt that more icetime in Minsk serves him better at this stage of his career. After a year or two in Minsk he hopes to be more ready for a career in the NHL.

I bet their history of not giving Finnish player a shot played into his decision.

Another good player to KHL. He made the right desicion by going to Russia instead of Pittsburgh. Right now it's almost impossible to get some ice time in the Pens. In Minsk he will be offered a much bigger role.

No wonder why NHL teams might be interested in him if you look at those measures. The biggest downside is that he may not be physical enough to NHL.

They don't really need physicality... A NHL coach or GM would gladly take a healthy Eric Dazé ahead of a Steve Sullivan.

Makkonen just signed with Frölunda of the SEL. Anyone got the scoop on him?

Yes. His previous season was just a flash in the pan. Next time he comes even close to PPG numbers will be in the season 2012-2013 when he plays in the Ligue Magnus (France).

Meh. He is the kind of player who does well in the SEL. Talented, yet not so assertive. I think he'll do just fine and once fully healed will produce at 0.6-0.7ppg.

Pens really wanted him in the off-season but Makkonen chose KHL because he thought that would be better league to improve than AHL.

I bet the Pens are not interested anymore after how he's been producing this year..
